wiper blades working reverse

My wiper motor is running fine with no strange noises, the blade arms work, the intermittent works and the high and low work. But everything appears to have reversed! For example: when I turn off the wiper dial on the arm, the blades stop and set in an up position on the windshield. I am thinking of ordering a replacement motor 40-1063. But I wonder if the problem might be somewhere else. What do you think?
Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
I suggest first inspecting the wiper crank arm assembly between the wiper linkage and the motor. It may have slipped out of position. If that is secure, then yes, it sounds like you need the wiper motor and module assembly. If you need help having this checked, a qualified technician from YourMechanic can inspect your wiper system and perform the needed repair.

As to making it run in reverse, it “could” be done. The ground brush holder would need to be reworked to insulate the brush from ground. Not an easy job, but possible.
There are a number of reasons why windscreen wipers stop working and these include: torn wipers, broken controls, a blown fuse, faults with the motor, damaged arms, snow or ice covering, loose pivot nuts and a break in the wires.
A pivot nut connects the wiper arms to the wiper transmission. When that nut is loose, which is not uncommon, the motor will still work and turn the pivot, but the wiper arm will remain static, or you could find that only one wiper works.

HI — Fast wipes: Push the wiper lever up to the third detent. LO — Slow wipes: Push the wiper lever up to the second detent. INT — Intermittent wipes (or Rainsense wipes, if equipped): Push the wiper lever up to the first detent.

Windshield wipers are powered by a small electric motor, usually mounted on the firewall or under the cowl (the area under the windshield`s base). The motor activates linkage that moves the wiper arms back and forth. On vehicles with a rear window wiper, a separate motor powers the one in the rear.
The car wiper motor is the electrical device that rotates to operate windscreen wipers. It`s usually a simple DC motor with brushes (or without), and copper wire armature.
Before the wiper motor goes bad, you will probably experience a blown wiper fuse, which is intentional. The fuse is designed to be the circuits weak spot, which protects the wiper motor. Essentially, if your vehicle`s wiper motor is being overloaded, the fuse will blow to ensure the motor does not become damaged.

Windshield wipers stopped working. They’ll suddenly stop working then suddenly start working again. Has been happening for a week.
ANSWER : The problem you are describing likely stems from an intermittent electrical fault in the wiper circuit. The windshield wiper system uses a small electric motor to move the wiper arms that you see on the windshield. That electric motor is controlled through a switch, relay, fuse, and wiring. One, or more, of those electrical components has failed although it is also possible that the mechanical arms are binding (seized, if the lubricant has dried out) thus causing the electric circuit to the motor to overload. Regardless of the underlying fault, if you request a non functioning wiper diagnostic/repair, the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Front windshield wipers do not work–washers still work, fuse is good 2010 Dodge Nitro
ANSWER : Hi – the sudden nature of this failure would suggest a fuse or other electrical link, but you have checked the obvious. Further diagnosis is needed to determine which component in the electrical power chain has failed – switch, electrical wiring, or the wiper motor itself. I would suggest an electrical component failure by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

Wiper has to manually be lifted before working – 1996 Chevrolet Beretta
ANSWER : You will have to replace the "wiper arm shaft" and/or wiper arm for the side which isn’t working. Both of these components have very small splines which interlock when the nut is tightened. A heavy snow or ice load can cause the splines to break down, or strip, rather than damage the electric motor. A certified technician from YourMechanic can replace the windshield wiper arm at your home or office.

My Tach doesn’t read correctly sometimes. Power locks and wiper blades don’t work all the time.
ANSWER : The problem with your tach sounds like it may be within the mechanical workings of the tachometer itself. If the gears that moves the needle around start to wear, you may have a bouncing needle or it can stop in one place. While the vehicle is hooked to a scan tool, you can watch the engine rpm on the scanner and if that reads 500 rpm as well as on the dash and the engine is definitely spinning faster, the sensor may be at fault. The power door locks and wiper problem may be separate problems as they don’t share many circuits. A loose ground connection can cause this type of problem as well as failing command switches or the relays that control these components. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come by for a closer look at the faulted electrical circuits to see where this bug is.

All dashboard lights and tail lights do not work after driving through a lot of snow. Headlights work. And brake lights work.
ANSWER : Hello. We’ll be happy to help you. There are a few things that I recommend checking to discover why your lighting system is malfunctioning. The headlight dimmer switch should be checked. Along with the wiring harness above the right front tire behind the fender well cover. Also
the main fuse under the hood should be inspected because other people with your particular vehicle have had similar lighting issues if that fuse goes bad. It will be a great idea to check the rest of the fuses in that area too while checking the main fuse. Once the fuses are checked inside of the main fuse box then I would check the fuses inside of their interior fuse box. The interior fuse box should be located on the driver side of the dashboard near where your legs would be. My dash board don’t work my front light work when I change my light into high beam and my back window won’t go down
ANSWER : As unfortunate as it is, your vehicle would be considered flood damaged. Diagnosing electrical problems in a flood damaged vehicle is nearly impossible. This would take many hours or even days to determine which wiring harnesses and circuits have been affected. Then nearly all of the wiring under the dash would likely require replacement as well as many sensors and switches. On a BMW vehicle, the amount of wires and switches are likely more than that of a lower end vehicle. Due to the inefficiency in cost, you would likely be able to purchase another BMW like yours for less than what it would cost to fix your car. Many insurance companies would consider this type of damage to total out the vehicle unfortuantely.
