I have a 2010 Nissan Maximo. My car has 98,000 miles on it. I haven't had a tune up yet. I can be driving and when I go to accelerate, the car slows way down for a few seconds, then all of a sudden it jumps back into action. It doesn't do it all the time, but at least twice a week. Do you think it's because it needs a tune up, or do you believe it's an engine issue. My car is still under warranty until 100,000 miles.

My car has 98000 miles.
My car's transmission is unknown to me.

Hello, thank you for writing in. Your vehicle should not be experiencing any major issues at this point, but that will be determined after an inspection as issues can happen. Your owner’s manual is the best source for letting you know what the manufacture recommends for a 100,000 mile tune-up. It will likely include the spark plugs, oil and filter change, air filter change, and a full inspection of all brakes, suspension, and major engine components. This may also be a transmission issue, and you may want to have your transmission fluid and filter changed as well. For more help, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

Here are the possible causes of acceleration problems in Nissan Maximas: Failing or dirty mass airflow sensor. Clogged catalytic converter. Clogged air filter.
During a tune-up, a technician will replace your vehicle`s belts and hoses when necessary. Fluid replacement: Your vehicle requires a lot of fluids, including engine oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and coolant. A tune-up is a great time to replace your vehicle`s fluids in one trip.
The average cost for Nissan Maxima Engine Tune-Up is $577.
There is one 2010 Nissan Maxima spark plug for each engine cylinder, and this part is responsible for kickstarting combustion in each of the cylinders to power the car.
The most likely issue is that a component is clogged. A clogged fuel filter is the most common reason, although a loss of power in your car could also indicate problems with the fuel pump or fuel line. Impurities or debris may be blocking the system, which causes the loss of power in a car.
A: The major benefit of an auto tune up is that it ensures your car functions properly and it prevents further damage. Depending on what the tune up involves, other benefits may include increasing the car`s efficiency with new fuel filters, increasing mile efficiency with new spark plugs, and many more.
How often do spark plugs need to be replaced? Spark plugs do eventually wear out, and failure is most common after 100,000 miles of use under normal driving conditions.
Enhance Nissan Maxima Performance with a Tune-Up

If you usually wait until your car has an issue to take it in for service, it might be time to change your ways, especially if you drive a 2021 Nissan Maxima. Periodic tune-ups can bring more power back to your Maxima`s engine.

An engine that is hesitating to accelerate is most likely dealing with a fuel/air mixture that is too lean. Engine`s that are running inefficiently will begin to show signs like hesitation which will only become worse over time.
An indication that a vehicle is not receiving the right mixture of air and fuel is if the vehicle jerks or surges forward at high speed. Several components of the fuel or air intake system could cause this jerking or surging sensation to happen. Issues within these systems can also cause fuel economy to worsen.
The most common cause of engine sputtering are issues with the fuel system. These can range from bad fuel filters, fuel pump issues, or fuel injector issues.

ANSWER : Hi there. When a car is slow to accelerate it can be caused by multiple issues, ranging from fuel systems that are clogged or damaged to an ignition system component failure. It is also possible that something in the driveline system is dragging which causes the lack of acceleration. Since there are so many different possible issues, the best way to start the diagnosis process is to have a professional mobile mechanic from our team come to your location and complete a car is slow to accelerate inspection.

Shifting from 2nd to 3rd, car stopped going fast. Now it won’t go at all.
ANSWER : It is possible that your clutch has failed. The sound you are hearing is likely due to the clutch not engaging with the engine due to it being worn. I would recommened having your transmission inspected by a qualified transmission expert to determine if your clutch requires replacement in order to resolve this issue. This inspection may require removal and partial disassembly of the transmission in order to verify that the clutch has failed.

ANSWER : Hi there. In some cases, a problem with the EVAP system; either an EVAP canister or purge solenoid can cause this type of symptom on extremely hot days. Another possibility is that you have an obstruction of fuel somewhere in the fuel system, like the throttle body, fuel injectors or the fuel filter. This could be difficult to diagnose for a professional mechanic as replicating the symptom is going to be difficult; unless it’s a hot day as you indicated. It would be a good idea to have a professional mechanic come to your location to complete a car is making a noise inspection, to isolate the source of that noise – as that sounds as if it’s a loose drive belt or perhaps something internal.

When driving and going over 55 mph the car starts shaking like it is going to cut off.
ANSWER : Hi there! There are several reasons why your TL can act this way.

First off, if this behavior is predominantly after the car has been sitting overnight or longer, it can be the result of "flat-spotting" – the low profile tires, with very stiff sidewall, develop "flat spots" where the tire sits on the pavement. This is overcome with 5-10 miles of highway driving, and the tire heat up a bit, and air pressure in the tire makes them round again.

The second possibility is out-of-balance tire/wheel combinations. Your tire shop can check the balance for you, and correct balance if necessary.

The third possibility is an axle with bad CV joints. If the CV joints are worn, they essentially "wobble", and this vibration is transmitted into the structure of the vehicle – which you could feel both with the steering wheel, and "seat-of-the-pants".

To avoid any unnecessary repairs, I would recommend having the shaking symptom diagnosed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, to diagnose this problem, get an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

i was driving and my oil light kept going off. Car had oil. Car wouldn’t accelerate. Car died. It does not turn engine over now.
ANSWER : It is very possible that the engine has been damaged beyond repair. Usually when the oil light goes on and the vehicle is low on oil, especially when a loud noise is heard right before the vehicle died, it is very likely that the engine is blown and would require replacement in order to continue driving the vehicle. I would recommend having the vehicle checked with a no start inspection. Consider YourMechanic as this service can be completed at your home or office.

I just got a new transmission put in my car and it drives and reverse but won’t go up hill.
ANSWER : This may be a sign of a faulty transmission control solenoid. As you know, automatic transmissions use pressurized hydraulic fluid to change gears. Every time a gear change is required, the car’s computer activates a transmission solenoid, which directs transmission fluid into the valve body to engage the correct gear. When this is faulty or not working properly, this can cause a delay in gear shifting or in some cases cause the car to not shift at all. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to take the car for a test drive to more specifically determine the cause for this.

Replaced alternator on car 2 times each time shows it’s charging 14v let car run for a little bit then test drive and car voltage
ANSWER : There are reports that the replacement alternators will not communicate with the engine computer and will not charge correctly. I recommend using only the manufacturer approved replacement part. It can be new or remanufactured but approved for use in the vehicle. Some lower cost alternators on the aftermarket will have charging problems since they will not communicate with the ECM on the vehicle and will stop charging.
