i have a 1994 z28 and i did a head gasket replacement for some blown head gaskets. I then tried changing the timing gears and when i took the timing cover off, broke the gasket as it connects to the oil pan gasket. I was wondering how much it would cost to change the oil pan gasket as most of the stuff is already off to get there. I was also wondering how much it would cost to put everything back together such as the intake, exhaust manifolds, starter, timing gears, new wirings, distributor, and new rockers. I already have everything, i just need to put everything back together. In your opinio

Hi there. It really depends on the location of the motor (meaning if it’s installed in the vehicle or loose and on an engine stand), that would factor into the price and whether this is a project one of our mobile mechanics can complete. We can complete the oil pan gasket replacement, but some of the other jobs like wiring harness, intake and rocker arm installation is outside of our scope of service. In regards to estimates for those services, I would suspect it would cost anywhere from $400 to $1,000 based on where it’s completed and what supplies would be needed.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

A failed head gasket means the engine will have to work harder to create power. Furthermore, a blown head gasket can cause your vehicle to lose coolant, causing the engine cooling system to underperform, making the overheating situation even worse.
There is really only one true fix to a leaking head gasket, which is to replace it. Replacing a blown head gasket is typically not a DIY job. It will require disassembling the engine or removing it from some vehicles. An alternative temporary fix many try is a liquid head gasket fix.
There is an easy way to find out if your engine`s head gasket has blown. Simply check under the oil filler cap. If the gasket is not damaged, the inside of the oil cap will be mostly dry. If you discover a milky brownish-yellow substance that is similar to the thickness of a milkshake, you probably have a gasket leak.
A blown or cracked head gasket can cause one of two problems: It can allow coolant to escape from your engine. The result is a loss in coolant, which can lead to overheating of your engine if you drive it for any length of time.
Because the head gasket is essential for proper engine function, it`s hard to know how long a car will last with a blown head gasket. Some vehicles may run for a few days while others won`t last twenty-four hours. To avoid extensive damage to your engine, do not use the car if you suspect a blown head gasket.
If the blown head gasket has caused catastrophic damage, a complete engine may need to be installed or a new vehicle purchased. If the engine is redeemable, the head gasket should be replaced.
A blown head gasket can be a pricy repair, and a head gasket sealer can help you avoid an expensive replacement. This product can help hold a blown head gasket in place and seal a head gasket to prevent leaks. The product starts as a liquid but the heat in the engine`s area helps it to harden over gaps.
A major sign of a cracked engine block or blown head gasket is when you can see the engine`s antifreeze has mixed with the oil. A cracked block or blown head gasket can cause the circulating engine antifreeze to mix with passing engine oil.
When they blow, intake manifold gaskets and head gaskets will typically leak different substances. A blown intake manifold gasket may cause air or fuel to leak. A blown head gasket, on the other hand, will typically cause combustion gases, coolant or oil to leak.
Is it safe to drive with a blown head gasket? No, the sooner you get it fixed, the better. Aside from the damage it will do to your engine, driving with a blown head gasket can be dangerous.
The short answer is yes, but it is not recommended. Ignoring a blown head gasket will likely lead to more damage to your engine as well as your wallet. Gaskets are some of the most important and necessary parts of any engine which function to seal off compartments.
While it`s possible to drive with a blown head gasket it certainly isn`t recommended. Once the seal is blown, pressure in the combustion chamber is lost and you`ll feel a significant loss of power. If your blown head gasket is causing coolant to leak, your engine is far more likely to overheat.

How to check which (valve/head)gasket is not working& what is the price to fix head gasket ?
ANSWER : The problems you describe (leaking radiator, overheating) often lead to a "blown" or leaking head gasket. For your vehicle, there is only 1 head gasket, which would need to be replaced. This is in addition to any failure of the radiator or other cooling system components.

I recommend having a YourMechanic mobile, professional mechanic come to your location and perform a car is overheating inspection. This inspection will identify failed cooling system components (radiator, head gasket issues) and recommend/quote needed repairs.

Honda Civic 2008 after replace blown head gasket car take long to start
ANSWER : If vehicle is hard to start after the engine head was removed then you may need to double check the timing of the timing belt was set correct and the engine has no codes for the cam sensor set because of it. You may have timing off one tooth. You should also check engine compression.

Code P0011 problems
ANSWER : Hi there. P0011 is the OBD-II generic code indicating the engine control module (ECM) has determined that the bank 1 intake camshaft is more advanced than what the ECM has commanded it be. This over-advanced condition could be during advancing or retarding of the camshaft timing. I would recommend reading this article as it will provide you with details as to what typically causes this code to trigger, and possible solutions.

My manual gear box is starting to get a little bit "clunky" as i change gears, is there an additive i can add to the gear oil?
ANSWER : The first thing to do is to drain and check the oil to see if it has any broken chunks of metal or a lot of brass metal pieces that indicate the gears and synchronizers for the gears are bad. If no metal is found then replace oil with recommended oils for transmission. If metal is found then an internal transmission repair is needed.

Changed head gasket car won’t start.
ANSWER : Hi there:

In most cases when a cylinder head gasket has been pushed due to overheating, it can cause additional damage to valve train hardware; most of the time problems with valve guides. However, if you’ve double checked all hardware; you might want to look into the ignition system; perhaps the crankshaft position sensor is damaged (which happens most of the time during an overheating issue). If you can’t find the source of your issues, feel free to contact one of our local mobile mechanics and have them complete a car will not start inspection; so they can help you diagnose the problem.

Does the timing chain need to be replaced when fixing a blown head gasket
ANSWER : Hi there. Anytime you replace the cylinder heads, and internal engine components, it is highly recommended to ensure they connect correctly with lower engine components; such as the crankshaft. This is the job of the timing chain. It’s also possible that the chain may have been damaged during the overheating situation that warped the cylinder head. In this case, I believe the mechanics advice is warranted.
