How do I know I have two resonators? Can I have two mufflers in each side with one resonator? Which side is most important? Thank You.

On my car I have two pipes out on each side in the back which I think mean I have two mufflers but not so sure because my brother said if I see two pipes out the back then I might have one muffler but two resonators. I'm trying to know if I have two muffler to purchase them or not and in which side muffler I have to change the most? If I have two muffler on each side and with one resonator which one side is more important than the other or both.Thank You.

My car has 170000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
You may have a single small resonator in the middle of the car that splits to the two mufflers. One on each side with single or dual tip outlets. The two mufflers are equal to each other to exit the exhaust flow. For more concrete advice, I’d recommend having an expert technician check out your specific muffler situation in person. A technician from YourMechanic can come to your home or office inspect your exhaust system and assist with any repairs that are needed.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

The resonator is a complement to the muffler in that it removes high-pitched noises along with annoying hums and buzzes. It creates a smoother exhaust note, but doesn`t affect volume.
In the exhaust system, a resonator is right before the muffler, and it assists the muffler`s objective of reducing a vehicle`s noise. A resonator will alter the sound so that it is more effectively able to be “muffled” by the muffler.
While mufflers reduce the exhaust volume, resonators tune the exhaust for a more pleasant sound. Resonators will remove some of the raspy and high-pitched noises from the exhaust but won`t do anything to muffle the volume.
A dual exhaust system, which is typically on sporty cars or even added to a car so it appears more sporty, is distinguishable by two tailpipes on the rear bumper instead of only one tailpipe. At the end of a dual exhaust system, fumes travel out two pipes and two mufflers, which reduce the noises from a car`s engine.
The material should be an excellent sound absorbent to restrict sound that comes out of the exhaust system. Also, you can opt for stainless steel resonators because they last longer and are less resistant to corrosion and rust.
Yes. Resonator exhaust tips contain specially designed cavities that cause the exhaust gases passing through to vibrate in a specific way that can alter or reduce the sound of your exhaust.
10. In which type of muffler series of resonators are connected? Explanation: Resonance type muffler is also called a Helmholtz type, after the person who originated the idea. It consists of several Helmholtz resonators in series.
When you take out the exhaust resonator and replace it with a pipe, the back pressure can be affected. It will reduce the efficiency of your car, and you might end up consuming more fuel while also hearing a louder noise.
A cold air intake is one of the best options for getting a resonant, deep-sounding exhaust note from your vehicle. When you rev your engine and finally release the throttle, you`ll hear the sound of air flowing through your intake and changing the notes of your engine to a louder, more aggressive sound.
Advantages: Compared to crystals, ceramic resonators cost half as much and are smaller in size. Disadvantages: Compared with crystals, they lack frequency and temperature stability. Its accuracy is poor, probably between 1% and 0.1%. ❓Looking for high-quality frequency components to power your electronic devices?
Using a straight-pipe design, resonators change and cancel certain engine sounds before they enter the muffler. Resonators have less baffling than a muffler; they don`t lower sound volume and they don`t reroute the exhaust gases like a muffler does.

How do I know I have two resonators? Can I have two mufflers in each side with one resonator? Which side is most important? Thank You.

Which side muffler is most important or both? Thank you.
ANSWER : Hello. I would say that both sides of the exhaust system are equally important, as the entire exhaust system is tuned as a unit. Usually both sides will have a catalytic converter and resonator, as each side is usually linked to one of the engine’s banks.

If they are only on one side, then it is likely that the entire system is plumbed together and set up that way for a specific reason. If you need any service done to your exhaust system, consider YourMechanic, as a certified professional can inspect your exhaust system and repair any issues that arise.

I don’t know if I have two mufflers or one if I do have one what does the other one do ? Thank you.
ANSWER : When you look under the back of the car and you see only one pipe out the back then you have only one muffler and a resonator. The resonator is near the back and is used for lowering the exhaust noise more and giving it a better tone. If you see two pipes out the back then you may have only one muffler but two resonators. Next time you have a service done, then ask the mechanic to see what you have since there are different models of Accords and they may have different exhaust configurations.

How long does a muffler last? How many miles it take to replace a muffler? Is theirs any difference between each muffler? (2 muffler)
ANSWER : There is a good chance it is the ’flex’ pipe section leaking. The life of the exhaust depends on mileage, driving conditions, and where you live. Snow and icy climates rip through exhaust systems with rust and road salt.

The 3.0 Hondas come with a stainless steel exhaust system which last for almost forever. The flex pipe typically cracks due to loose engine mounts. If someone has replaced the exhaust, then it may have rusted through. If you have the factory exhaust, then it should last the life of the car unless you live in a snow-type climate. If you want to have the noise looked at, a technician from YourMechanic can come to your home or office to inspect your exhaust system and let you know what adjustments should be done.

Will removal of sway bar cause my truck to lean even when parked to one side? 1997 GMC Jimmy
ANSWER : Hello – no, a broken sway bar won’t cause a tilt to either side just sitting there – only while turning. Your problem sounds like one of the driver-side springs, probably the front, has weakened. This causes the tilt you experience, and may require replacement to even out tire wear side-to-side. I would suggest a suspension inspection by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

Hi, I want to know how much it will cost if I have to replace the motor of the two windows in the back of my car. The windows are
ANSWER : If you are referring to the rubber wiper blades, those are inexpensive and just clip on. However, if the wiper system does not work at all the cost to repair the wipers ranges widely because the problem could be as simple as a disconnected wire to the wiper motor or as involved, and costly, as a failed wiper motor. The wiper system would have to be diagnosed to give you accurate cost information. The issues with the windows and the turn signal are similarly difficult to estimate without a diagnostic. For example, the window on the left side might just have a stuck or sticking regulator within the door and thus no new parts are needed. On the right, if there is an electrical fault, such as a bad switch, the cost will be much lower than if the window motor on the right has to be replaced. If the turn signal switch is broken, column disassembly is required. However, if the fault is simply high resistance in the wiring to the bulbs, the bulb terminals or the bulbs, the cost will be much, much lower. All of these items can be estimated and repaired during one trip (or, at least, commencing during the first trip) so as a practical matter, what I recommend that you do is simply request wiper repair and turn signal repair as these are the two critical items that must be working for you to use the car and the mechanic will let you know exactly what is wrong and what the cost will be. Driver Side Inner & Outer Tie Rods and driver side strut being bent.
ANSWER : From what you’ve described, the damage was most likely caused from hitting a pot hole. If the damage was from a pot hole on the right side, in some cases it’s possible for the force to transfer over and damage the left side as well. If you’d like a second opinion on this, consider YourMechanic, as a certified technician can come to your home to diagnose your car’s suspension system and confirm these suspicions.

Can I replace the ball joints on just one side, or should it be done one both sides?
ANSWER : If you change the ball joints due to wear on one side of the vehicle, then the other side will likely go bad in a short time. After replacing the ball joints on one or both sides you will need to get an alignment done. If you only replace one side, get the alignment done, and need to replace the other side in a month, another alignment will need to be done. I would recommend replacing both sides at the same time so only one alignment needs to be done and you have the peace of mind that your front ball joints will be good for a long time. If you need help with this replacement, YourMechanic can dispatch a certified technician to your location.
