2007 Honda Pilot Check Engine Light and VSA light on and idling at higher RPM, problem with acceleration

Check Engine Light comes on sometimes and it is accompanied with VSA light and some kind of triangle warning signal. When this happens on the road the acceleration is not as good as it is before VSA light comes on. I have to stop and restart car. In this case VSA light goes off and Check Engine light stays ON, but car drives as normal. When VSA light is on the idle RPM is much higher too.

I was told it might be APP sensor, acceleration pedal sensor which is easily replaceable. How likely it is?

It also can be misfire in cylinders? Car has high mileage and I have no idea if previous owner c

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Hi there. The Vehicle Stability Assist light typically will trigger when the system has been disabled and it not the source of misfiring or acceleration issues in most cases. Since your check engine light is illuminated as well, it is highly probably that the root source of this issue will be discovered by having a professional mobile mechanic complete a check engine light inspection. This will permit them to download all stored error codes and correctly diagnose the root issues your Honda Pilot is experiencing and recommend the right repairs.

Well, VSA stands for Vehicle Stability Assist and is Honda`s computer system that helps ensure the tires have traction to help keep you on the road. When both the check engine light and the VSA light are illuminated it means that the computer has detected there may be a fault in the system.
If you see the VSA light blinking on your Honda`s console, there`s no need to worry that it`s a fault or other warning. The flashing light simply means that the system has activated and is helping the car to steer more safely.
Below are some common reasons why your Honda Pilot is shaking: Old or worn-out spark plugs and wires. Loose or disconnected hoses near the engine. Loose connections at the battery terminals.
VSA stands for Vehicle Stability Assist, it helps ensure the tires have traction and keep the vehicle under control. Driving your Honda Pilot with different tire and wheel sizes causes the VSA and check engine light to come on.
There is a “connection.” When you drained the battery, the PCM and possibly the electronically controlled VSA components themselves “saw” an out of range low voltage, even if momentarily. Such will cause a trouble code to set and illuminate the warning light. It is a known issue.
If the low tire pressure indicator comes on, or the multi-information display shows a “CHECK TPMS SYSTEM“ message, the VSA system automatically turns on even when the VSA system is turned off by pressing the VSA OFF switch (see page ).
When that warning light triangle with an exclamation point pops up, there`s a simple explanation. It means that there is something wrong with your Honda vehicle`s Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) system. This system helps to stabilize the vehicle during cornering if the car turns more or less than desired.
An indication that a vehicle is not receiving the right mixture of air and fuel is if the vehicle jerks or surges forward at high speed. Several components of the fuel or air intake system could cause this jerking or surging sensation to happen. Issues within these systems can also cause fuel economy to worsen.
Tire issues: The most frequent causes of a vehicle shaking while driving stem from tire issues. Tires begin to behave differently when worn or out of balance. Tire replacement, realignment, and rebalancing are common solutions.
When you notice the system starts malfunctioning and showing significantly visible or sensible symptoms, you will have to dig deep into the core price and solutions. Repairing a VSA system malfunction will cost between $1,200 and $1,800.
The only time when you should be driving with the VTM-4 lock on is when you are navigating through a rough road or terrain, which is exactly what the Pilot is designed for. Turning off the VTM-4 lock will require stopping the car and turning off the engine before starting it back up again.
Take your vehicle into your local Toyota service center to have a certified technician run the codes and pinpoint the issue. It is safe to drive your Toyota while the VSC OFF light is on, however, we recommend cautious driving, especially in poor weather.
What`s the Benefit? VSA5 is designed to boost driver confidence by enhancing control and stability during acceleration, cornering and braking.

Car goes into limp mode when the check engine light and VSA light comes on
ANSWER : The lights that you have on and the vehicle going into fail safe mode is an indication you have a major system failure that will require computer to be tested for codes first. There are many possible codes it can be so the additional testing will be needed to isolate the cause of the problem.

2007 Honda Accord VSA light and engine light coming on, will not downshift, must come to stop , shut off and start again. 2007 Honda Accord
ANSWER : Hi there – you likely have more than one problem at work here. First task is to extract the problem codes which are causing the Check Engine light to come, and the codes (Honda specific) causing the Vehicle Stability Assist warning to come on. These will help guide diagnosis most effectively. The lack of down shifting is often caused by a transmission solenoid sticking – blocking flow of transmission fluid to some portions of the transmissions valve body. Shutting the vehicle off, then back on, resets the solenoid. The VSA issue may be as simple as a wheel speed sensor, but you will need the Honda-specific codes for the VSA system to determine that. I recommend a transmission inspection by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs. A further VSA problem code scan is also needed to diagnose that issue.

2006 Ford Mustang has check engine light on
ANSWER : There are countless potential causes for your illuminated check engine light. The mechanic manually turned off the light, but it came back on because the problem has not been fixed. The first place to start is retrieval of the stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). These codes serve as a starting point for any further diagnostics a mechanic may perform. Codes will be stored anytime the check engine light is on. Since the first mechanic was unable to fix your concern, I recommend giving the professionals at YourMechanic a call. We offer expert check engine light diagnosis and repair.

Engine problems, sluggish acceleration, dash lights on
ANSWER : It would help to know what the codes were that the dealer turned off and are most likely back. If they were misfire, antilock brake, or engine problem codes they will all help in the diagnosis of the problem you are having. If you have a rough running engine then you may have a fouling spark plug or ignition system issues. If you do not take it back to the dealer then have a certified mechanic check your acceleration problem. From there, the necessary steps and checks can be made in order to accurately fix your car.

Check engine light refuses to go off after engine replaced
ANSWER : Hello there, you have a long series of issues going on with your 2013 Hyundai Sonata. If you keep getting a repeating oil light on than there is likely a fault in that system.

Since this fault has lasted after the engine was replaced it could be a oil pressure sensor, wiring harness fault, ECU fault, oil pump, oil strainer clogged, or low oil pressure.

To diagnose this issue properly you need a complete vehicle inspection to start from square one and identify the root cause of all this.

The check engine light and the VSA came on at the same time. Is the van (Honda Odyssey 2010) ok to drive.
ANSWER : VSA is Honda’s name for the electronic stability control system. Most vehicles today have it and use different names. The stability system usually piggy backs on the anti-lock brake system, using the same wheel speed, brake light, steering angle, and other sensors to function properly. Stability control systems can apply brake pressure to an individual wheel, let alone all 4 wheels, if sensors lead the system, to think the vehicle is out of control. If there is a fault with any of these sensors, the VSA light, check engine light, or both, will come on and a fault code will be stored in the engine management system. The vehicle can be driven, however the stability control system will not be performing as designed.

It would be best to have a certified technician look into why the check engine / stability control lights are on to restore the system to peak performance.

ANSWER : Hi there. When an error code is created, it is often stored in the ECU until it is cleared by a professional mechanic during a check engine light inspection. It is possible that this is the source of your error light, especially if you are not having any further problems starting your vehicle.
