Would I need to replace the entire valve cover?

If I have oil in my GMC Acadia sparks (bottom part – where you would find the electrodes) would I need to replace the entire Valve covers? , pcv valve (which is inside covers) also seems to be faulty as there's a lot of oil in air intake ducts and upper intake
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi there:

Oil leaking into the spark plug wells is an indication of a fairly serious problem that should be inspected and repaired immediately. It is almost always due to a failing gasket or O-ring but can also be the result of a failing piston or worn valve guides. Most likely this is not a problem with the valve cover itself. Before you decide to purchase any replacement parts, you might want to have a local mobile mechanic, like one from YourMechanic complete an oil leak inspection; so they can pinpoint what components are damaged and recommend the right replacement.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

1. Leaking Valve Cover Gasket. A compromised valve cover gasket allows oil to leach from beneath the valve cover of an engine itself. As a result, this oil often seems into the void or well which encompasses the body of an engine`s spark plugs.
Oil making its way into the spark plug wells will drastically affect the engines performance, leading to misfires, increased oil consumption and blue exhaust. In extreme cases, it can even lead to an engine fire. If the vehicle is exhibiting any of these symptoms, the spark plugs should be inspected immediately.
Yes for the gasket, no for the spark plugs. However, if it is a big job to have access to the plugs and they are out in the open now, and they have not been serviced for a long time, this would be a good time to do it. Not to stop the oil leak but because it is the prudent thing to do.
Faulty O-Rings

O-ring seals are located beneath the spark plug tubes. Oil will seep through an O-ring that has been worn or cracked, and it will reach the spark plug tube. You`ll need to address this issue promptly before the engine suffers too much damage.

The short answer is, yes. If your engine is losing oil, running the car for too long without an inspection and repair can cause permanent damage. If the gasket is worn out, it will leak engine oil and the top of the engine will be likely be covered in oil.
On average, it`ll cost you around $100 to $350 to replace the valve cover. You`ve to pay 30 to 50 bucks for parts and 70 to 300 dollars for labor fare.
Can I Drive with Oil on My Spark Plugs? Spark plugs that are significantly oil-contaminated can result in an engine misfire. Because a misfire can cause additional damage to other parts of the vehicle, such as the catalytic converter, it`s a good idea to address oily spark plugs right away.
While the source of oil leaks can be hard to locate, a common and relatively easy to repair source is located where the valve cover meets the cylinder head. If oil is going missing and the area around and under the valve cover is soaked, then it could be time to replace the valve cover gasket.
It is not recommended that you drive with a leaking valve cover gasket, as this can lead to overheating and engine insufficiency, as well as extensive engine damage.
Blue Exhaust Smoke

The exhaust pipe may soon begin to emit blue smoke, indicating that oil is being burned somewhere in the engine. Typically, such indicators appear when there is oil in the spark plug well. When there is oil on the spark plug, it affects the engine`s efficiency and how it burns fuel.

When a spark plug well fills with oil, it means that the O-ring that seals the well to keep out oil and debris has deteriorated and started to leak. Although the leak can sometimes be fixed by tightening the valve cover bolts, more often than not the valve cover gasket and well seals will need to be replaced.
Unfortunately, a valve cover gasket leak can be dangerous if it leads to spontaneous vehicle failure or overheating as you drive. While it doesn`t pose a serious risk of sudden harm otherwise, it can cause extensive internal damage to your engine and related systems, which can cost hundreds or thousands to repair.

Do i need to replace the receiver drier and/or the expansion valve when replacing the condenser assembly?
ANSWER : Replacing the system drier is absolutely essential. If the system has been open to the atmosphere (due to the leak in the condenser), the desiccant in the drier has been fully saturated with moisture. As far as the expansion valve, replacement is not normally implicated in a leak repair, in your case a leak in the condenser. To justify replacing the expansion valve, there would have to have been a diagnostic performed which proved a fault. If no diagnostic was performed, and there is no evidence of a fault, then it is pointless to replace the valve. But, again, drier replacement is absolutely essential. To add the drier to your order, you can simply add a note to the mechanic in your order and/or add it as a service (you will see a link that you can click on to "add services" or write in specific services). Was told that I need my valve cover gasket replaced. It is the drives side 1998 Mercedes C280
ANSWER : Hi there – I believe the "gasket" you mention that is actually leaking is one of a handful of rubber grommets for the bolts that hold on the valve cover gasket. They require removal of the valve cover gasket to replace, and should be replaced at the same time as the valve cover gasket. They get hard with age and heat, and will leak in a similar time frame as the valve cover gasket. I recommend a valve cover gasket replacement by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, and replace the gasket and grommets, resolving the leak.

When replacing the AC Compressor, do I need to replace both expansion valves as well or just the front
ANSWER : Hi there. Anytime you replace major air conditioning system components like the AC compressor, it’s recommended to purchase all supporting hardware and replace it at the same time. AC works as a series of individual components working efficiently together to create cool air that flows into your cabin. As such, if you’re replacing the front expansion valve, it’s a good idea to replace the rear at the same time. This increases overall efficiency of the system, reduces the potential of small component failure and allows the parts you replaced to last longer.

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima and have been told the valve covers are plastic, so they have to be replaced. They cannot replace jus
ANSWER : Hi there. As far as I’m aware, the valve covers on a V6 3.5 Liter Nissan engine are made of steel and not plastic or a polymer. If the valve cover was a strong polymer (or plastic), the valve cover gasket would still be separate from the OEM valve cover and could be replaced. However, the spark plug O-rings inside the valve cover are not replaceable, so it is recommended to replace the valve cover and gasket at the same time. This video should explain what I’m talking about.
