I would like to know what parts I need to replace VVT ECCENTRIC SHAFT SENSOR and Valve cover

So I took my BMW to get checked and they told me that my VVT eccentric shaft sensor needed to be replaced and also that my valve cover is cracked. It was estimated to cost 2500$ which seemed too much. What I need to know is what parts I need to order to replace the valve cover because it's cracked. When I look it up it says valve cover gasket and I feel like that is incorrect. Please help

My car has 78000 miles.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Although we would need to confirm using your VIN number, the required valve cover in your application appears to be part #: BMW-11127552281. The required BMW Eccentric Shaft Sensor (Valvetronic) is part #: VDO-S119565001Z. These OEM parts can be installed more economically for you by a mobile professional mechanic versus the cost you will see at a dealer. If you desire that these parts be replaced by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request quotes for valve cover/gasket replacement as well as VVT sensor or solenoid replacement. Once you set up an appointment, the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

The eccentric shaft sensor is responsible for controlling valvetronic timing, and has been known to be a common issue. If your car has been experiencing difficult starts, low fuel economy, and overall lack of engine power and performance, this component may be to blame.
The eccentric shaft sensor is mounted to the cylinder head beneath the valve cover. The top of the sensor protrudes up through valve cover and is sealed by a rubber gasket. The eccentric shaft sensor tends to wick engine oil up through electrical connector, creating an oil leak at top front of valve cover.
The Valvetronic sensor measures the position of the eccentric shaft in the cylinder head which controls the variable valve lift system on the intake side of the engine. The Valvetronic system essentially controls the engine speed by varying the lift of the intake valves.
Common signs include harsh or improper shifting, cruise control not working, and the Check Engine Light coming on.
Typical causes could include poor electrical connections, a damaged or defective actuator motor, low system voltages, or a binding/sticking eccentric shaft. The presence of this code will typically cause the Valvetronic system to be deactivated, and in some cases, a limp mode to be initiated.
Unlike a cam, which also converts rotary into linear motion at almost any rate of acceleration and deceleration, an eccentric or return crank can only impart an approximation of simple harmonic motion.
The camshaft position sensor is used to synchronize fuel injection and as a feedback device for VANOS (variable camshaft timing) control. When a camshaft sensor fails, the check engine light will illuminate and a fault code will be stored.
A camshaft position sensor is an electronic device that does what it suggests — monitor the camshaft position and speed — and feeds that data to the vehicle`s engine control module (ECM). The ECM needs this data to control how much fuel enters the combustion chamber and ignition (spark) timing to ignite the fuel.

VVT oil control valve part number needed so I can replace the part.
ANSWER : Hi there. The part numbers that you have provided are for the left and the right. There is a difference in the two parts as they operate slightly different from each other. It is best to take the parts to your local parts store and have them cross reference the parts to get your replacement parts. You may even have to make a visit to a dealership or a OEM parts store. If you need further assistance with your variable valve timing solenoid replacement, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Do i need to replace the receiver drier and/or the expansion valve when replacing the condenser assembly?
ANSWER : Replacing the system drier is absolutely essential. If the system has been open to the atmosphere (due to the leak in the condenser), the desiccant in the drier has been fully saturated with moisture. As far as the expansion valve, replacement is not normally implicated in a leak repair, in your case a leak in the condenser. To justify replacing the expansion valve, there would have to have been a diagnostic performed which proved a fault. If no diagnostic was performed, and there is no evidence of a fault, then it is pointless to replace the valve. But, again, drier replacement is absolutely essential. To add the drier to your order, you can simply add a note to the mechanic in your order and/or add it as a service (you will see a link that you can click on to "add services" or write in specific services). Would I need to replace the entire valve cover?
ANSWER : Hi there:

Oil leaking into the spark plug wells is an indication of a fairly serious problem that should be inspected and repaired immediately. It is almost always due to a failing gasket or O-ring but can also be the result of a failing piston or worn valve guides. Most likely this is not a problem with the valve cover itself. Before you decide to purchase any replacement parts, you might want to have a local mobile mechanic, like one from YourMechanic complete an oil leak inspection; so they can pinpoint what components are damaged and recommend the right replacement.

Valve Cover Gaskets/ Transmission line fittings to the radiator, do I need them?
ANSWER : Hello. The only way to really know for sure if you need to have these repairs done would be to get a second opinion. If the valve covers are leaking then they should be repaired to prevent further issues. As for the transmission line fittings, if these are leaking at the transmission then they need to be fixed also. Most of the time that does not need anything more than tightening the hoses at the fitting to stop any leakage. If you would like to get a second opinion on these leaks, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose and repair this.

I have a p0171 code on my ford ranger 2.5 and have replaced fuel filter maf sensor, iac sensor, fixed vacuum leaks, replaced fuel
ANSWER : Hello there. You might to read this article about the P0171 OBD-II trouble code; as it will give you ideas on causes and possible solutions.

What parts would I need to replace in the AC system of my 2004 Chevrolet Blazer
ANSWER : Hello. If there is just a leak in a hose then only the hose needs to be replaced then the system needs to be evacuated and recharged. If the compressor is bad then it needs to be replace along with the accumulator and the expansion valve. There really is no reason to replace the entire system unless there is a catastrophic compressor failure. You should find another air conditioning specialist to take it to in order to get a second opinion.

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima and have been told the valve covers are plastic, so they have to be replaced. They cannot replace jus
ANSWER : Hi there. As far as I’m aware, the valve covers on a V6 3.5 Liter Nissan engine are made of steel and not plastic or a polymer. If the valve cover was a strong polymer (or plastic), the valve cover gasket would still be separate from the OEM valve cover and could be replaced. However, the spark plug O-rings inside the valve cover are not replaceable, so it is recommended to replace the valve cover and gasket at the same time. This video should explain what I’m talking about.
