Hi there:

If it’s leaking oil from that part, it’s possible that it’s an oil cooler (specifically the cooler lines are the ones that tend to leak overtime). However, the best way for us to identify it is for you to send a clickable link of the image; as it’s not possible to upload an image through the Ask a Mechanic inquiry yet.

A V6 engine, often just called a V6, is an internal combustion engine with six cylinders. The engine has three cylinders on each side called banks. The two banks form a “V” shaped angle. In most engines, the two banks are at a right angle (90°) or less to each other.
Swapping the firing order between any of the paired pistons can be done within reason but requires a special camshaft to change the order of valve actuation; this will also change the overall engine firing order, including the ignition order.

Any unusual shaking or vibrating forces coming from the engine is cause for concern. It could be something as simple as old spark plugs producing an uneven power delivery, it could be something serious like worn or broken engine mounts, or it could be even more serious in the case of internal engine damage.

Your VIN number should be located on the driver’s side of the windshield lower corner. You should also be able to find it in the door jam on the driver’s side. This number should contain 17 characters.

I need new struts but do not know if I need specific struts because my car is on lowering springs.
ANSWER : Shocks and struts are vehicle specific. They’re designed to operate within a certain range of travel. When you mix lowering springs – especially those that lower the car a couple of inches – with stock shocks and struts, the ride can be really rough and their life can be shortened. If you plan on keeping the lowering springs but replacing the struts only, you may want to check with vendors that sell the brand springs on the car as to their recommended struts to be paired with them.

If you decide to enlist some help for getting this fixed, I’d suggest having the car looked at by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic. They will be able to assess you car in person and assist you with the proper replacement of your strut assembly. Best of luck.

I went to change the passenger side axle of my 2003 L300 3.0 and got the axle to find out the one in the car was not the same at
ANSWER : If you are not the original owner of the vehicle, it’s possible an engine or transmission swap was performed before you purchased the vehicle. Whether this is the case or not, have your parts source check listings for a couple of years before and after 2003 models to see if there is a difference. If for some reason that doesn’t work out, then you may have to rebuild the existing one. If your parts source cannot find the correct axle, ask them if they know of any local driveshaft rebuilders. I just tried a search for "driveshaft rebuilders" and a couple popped up in my area as well as several in other cities around the country.

Then remove the key and hook up the battery cables. The computer should have reset and reset the security. I need help identifying these car parts… Also how do you take out a stripped screw?
ANSWER : The pictures of the first two do not work or the link is bad and the last picture shows the quarter window. Getting out a stripped screw is done in a couple ways. The first is to use the correct screwdriver or cut a new groove using a file or grinder. The other is to drill a hole and use a screw extractor set.

I need to find out if my car has a spindle or not
ANSWER : Your vehicle does not have a spindle- but what it does have, namely a hub/bearing assembly in a steering knuckle that supports a driveshaft, is not relevant to, nor implicated in, the replacement of the lower ball joint. A brand new Moog lower control arm, INCLUDING an already installed ball joint, all with a Lifetime warranty (from the retailer) for your car, costs roughly $35 (using the usual 30% off coupon at Advance Auto Parts). The labor time to professionally install that lower control arm on your vehicle is less than 2 hours. If I were you, I’d contact YourMechanic too FIRST confirm the diagnosis to see if you even need this part and then, if you do need it, have it replaced at a much lower cost. Obviously, there is no justification to spend $700 to replace a $35 part requiring 2 hours of labor. Let us know how we can assist you.

Should I buy this car for $1700
ANSWER : Prior to buying any car, drive the car around and listen for any noises. Then do an inspection on the vehicle to make sure that it is safe to drive. All cars will need maintenance, but if the car was kept up, then the maintenance should be to a minimum.
