I need to find out if my car has a spindle or not
I recently took my car to the shop and the guy told me that my right lower passenger side ball joint was shot and that I need to get it fixed. I asked how much and he said it depends on if it needs a spindle or not. And then said it could cost almost $700 so I'm trying to find out if my car even has a spindle or not.
My car has 11800 miles.

I put the wrong key in my car and a few weeks later my car just shut down and it will not start I believe it’s the computer but…
ANSWER : Hi there. What had happened is the wrong key set the security to the vehicle. This is to prevent the vehicle from starting with the wrong keys. Try removing the battery cables (+) and (-) for 13 minutes. During that time, put the original key in the ignition and turn it on. Activate everything in the car even though there is no power. Then remove the key and hook up the battery cables. The computer should have reset and reset the security. Replaced alternator on car 2 times each time shows it’s charging 14v let car run for a little bit then test drive and car voltage
ANSWER : There are reports that the replacement alternators will not communicate with the engine computer and will not charge correctly. I recommend using only the manufacturer approved replacement part. It can be new or remanufactured but approved for use in the vehicle. Some lower cost alternators on the aftermarket will have charging problems since they will not communicate with the ECM on the vehicle and will stop charging.

ANSWER : If you are not the original owner of the vehicle, it’s possible an engine or transmission swap was performed before you purchased the vehicle. Whether this is the case or not, have your parts source check listings for a couple of years before and after 2003 models to see if there is a difference. If for some reason that doesn’t work out, then you may have to rebuild the existing one. If your parts source cannot find the correct axle, ask them if they know of any local driveshaft rebuilders. I just tried a search for "driveshaft rebuilders" and a couple popped up in my area as well as several in other cities around the country.

ANSWER : Hi – I would do a quick check on the problem codes causing the Check Engine light and other warnings you mention. In general you would have an occasional misfire or hiccup that you should feel as engine vibration as any of the 4 coils start to go weak. Some engine ignition systems are more sensitive to coil compatibility than others, and replacing all of them at once with higher mileage is a good guideline. However, you don’t have all that many miles on your Mini. I would challenge the reason to replace all of them on this occasion. I recommend a thermostat replacement and misfire inspection by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose and/or correct these problems, and give you an accurate assessment of other damage and cost estimate for repairs.

ANSWER : I have only seen this situation once in my 30+ years and it turned out to be a broken crankshaft pulley. Belts are driven by the engine. The crankshaft pulley spins the belts, which in turn spin the air conditioner compressor, power steering and water pumps, and the alternator. The vehicle should be towed to your local repair shop and not driven. Without the water pump spinning to circulate the coolant, the engine will quickly overheat and result in more extensive damage.

You can try and put an oven thermometer in the car and see how hot your car gets. This is why the AC takes a while to cool the inside of the car.
