I need to find out if my car has a spindle or not

I recently took my car to the shop and the guy told me that my right lower passenger side ball joint was shot and that I need to get it fixed. I asked how much and he said it depends on if it needs a spindle or not. And then said it could cost almost $700 so I'm trying to find out if my car even has a spindle or not.

My car has 11800 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
Your vehicle does not have a spindle- but what it does have, namely a hub/bearing assembly in a steering knuckle that supports a driveshaft, is not relevant to, nor implicated in, the replacement of the lower ball joint. A brand new Moog lower control arm, INCLUDING an already installed ball joint, all with a Lifetime warranty (from the retailer) for your car, costs roughly $35 (using the usual 30% off coupon at Advance Auto Parts). The labor time to professionally install that lower control arm on your vehicle is less than 2 hours. If I were you, I’d contact YourMechanic too FIRST confirm the diagnosis to see if you even need this part and then, if you do need it, have it replaced at a much lower cost. Obviously, there is no justification to spend $700 to replace a $35 part requiring 2 hours of labor. Let us know how we can assist you.

The first generation Saturn SC coupes were made from 1990 until 1996. The first generation Saturn SC coupes were originally only available in one trim level which was the SC. The 1990-1992 Saturn SC featured a DOHC 1.9-liter LL0 inline-four engine that was rated at 123 hp (92 kW).
sl1 are usually single camer slammers. and sl2 r twin cam. sl2 might have better seats but they do have power options and some have sunroofs.
Some of the most common weaknesses in Saturn reliability are the internal components and comfort features. While Saturn engines, transmissions, suspension, and brakes have tended to hold up well over long use, the seals on their doors, seats and internal finish haven`t always held up as well.
The 2002 Saturn L-Series gets 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Smaller engines, often ranging between 1-litre and 1.9-litre, tend to be the most economical as there is less fuel to burn to create power. However, this can often result in less power compared to a larger engine. They are usually more efficient if used for their purpose, which is most commonly city driving.
Small Engine Cars

A small engine is often considered to be between 1 litre and 1.9 litres. They tend to be the most economical since there is less space for fuel in the tank which can be burned to create power.

The 2002 S-Series ranges in power from the SL Sedan 4D with 100 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 10.5 seconds to the SL2 Sedan 4D with 124 horsepower. For a more detailed look at the 2002 S-Series specs, features and options check out Kelley Blue Book`s 2002 Saturn S-Series specs page.

If it v6 it is a timing belt. The only ones that come with a v6 is a LS2 ( and LW2 ) timing belt should be check every 60,000 miles and change at 100,000 miles. If its a timing chan drive it tell the chain start to make a slaping noise.

Saturn`s environment is not conducive to life as we know it. The temperatures, pressures, and materials that characterize this planet are most likely too extreme and volatile for organisms to adapt to.
With regular oil changes and smooth driving, you can expect the SL2`s engine to last at least 200,000 miles.
How much is a 2002 Saturn L-Series worth? The value of a used 2002 Saturn L-Series ranges from $552 to $2,931, based on vehicle condition, mileage, and options.
Based on data from 54 vehicles, 4,966 fuel-ups and 1,260,262 miles of driving, the 2002 Saturn SL2 gets a combined Avg MPG of 29.82 with a 0.16 MPG margin of error.
The engine comes in 1.8 L (1,769 cc), 1.9 L (1,905 cc), and 2.1-liter displacements.
A 2.0-litre engine has the capacity for around 2,000cc (two litres) of fuel and air which is burnt with every revolution the engine turns.
When the number of liters is higher, the engine tends to be able to produce more power and torque. The drawback to a higher-liter engine is that it will burn more fuel because it has more cylinders operating to pump fuel through the components.
Saturn VIN Number Lookup

It consists of 17 characters, including numbers and letters. The first three characters tell you where the car was made, and the next five characters tell you what month it was built. The remaining characters are unique to that specific model and its matching parts.

Gas Giant. Saturn is a gas-giant planet and therefore does not have a solid surface like Earth`s.
The biggest difference between the SC1 and the SC2 was found in the engine compartment. The cheaper SC1 had a SOHC 1.9-liter engine rated at 114 horsepower. The SC2 got a DOHC version that made 122 horses, plus a decklid spoiler, 15″ wheels, and other goodies.
Tesla calls the all-wheel-drive EV the “quickest car in the world,” with a claimed 0-60 mile-per-hour time of just 1.9 seconds.
P0133 indicates the ECM senses that the O2 Sensor is not changing its voltage output quickly enough to the changing air-fuel ratio.
The most common reasons a Saturn SL2 won`t start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.
The effects of Saturn on human beings are many-fold. Shani is a planet of obstruction, distress, depression, sorrow, sickness and is capable of bringing adversaries in a human`s life. One finds it very difficult during its phase; one may find yourself strangled, restless and depressed.
So, if you tried to walk on this part of Saturn, you would sink through its atmosphere. Saturn`s atmosphere is very thick and its pressure increases the deeper you go. After a while, you would stop sinking and unfortunately be crushed by the high pressure deeper in Saturn`s atmosphere.
It might also be difficult for the dealership to obtain parts for old Saturn models. If you are committed to purchasing a Saturn, be prepared to spend time and money to get your vehicle repaired when needed, especially if you opt for the Vue, Sky, or Outlook models.

I put the wrong key in my car and a few weeks later my car just shut down and it will not start I believe it’s the computer but…
ANSWER : Hi there. What had happened is the wrong key set the security to the vehicle. This is to prevent the vehicle from starting with the wrong keys. Try removing the battery cables (+) and (-) for 13 minutes. During that time, put the original key in the ignition and turn it on. Activate everything in the car even though there is no power. Then remove the key and hook up the battery cables. The computer should have reset and reset the security. If the security is still being tripped, then I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you

Replaced alternator on car 2 times each time shows it’s charging 14v let car run for a little bit then test drive and car voltage
ANSWER : There are reports that the replacement alternators will not communicate with the engine computer and will not charge correctly. I recommend using only the manufacturer approved replacement part. It can be new or remanufactured but approved for use in the vehicle. Some lower cost alternators on the aftermarket will have charging problems since they will not communicate with the ECM on the vehicle and will stop charging.

I went to change the passenger side axle of my 2003 L300 3.0 and got the axle to find out the one in the car was not the same at
ANSWER : If you are not the original owner of the vehicle, it’s possible an engine or transmission swap was performed before you purchased the vehicle. Whether this is the case or not, have your parts source check listings for a couple of years before and after 2003 models to see if there is a difference. If for some reason that doesn’t work out, then you may have to rebuild the existing one. If your parts source cannot find the correct axle, ask them if they know of any local driveshaft rebuilders. I just tried a search for "driveshaft rebuilders" and a couple popped up in my area as well as several in other cities around the country.

Got a diagnostic, mech says car need theromostat and all coils and plugs. Car was fine then check engine light 2009 Mini Cooper
ANSWER : Hi – I would do a quick check on the problem codes causing the Check Engine light and other warnings you mention. In general you would have an occasional misfire or hiccup that you should feel as engine vibration as any of the 4 coils start to go weak. Some engine ignition systems are more sensitive to coil compatibility than others, and replacing all of them at once with higher mileage is a good guideline. However, you don’t have all that many miles on your Mini. I would challenge the reason to replace all of them on this occasion. I recommend a thermostat replacement and misfire inspection by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose and/or correct these problems, and give you an accurate assessment of other damage and cost estimate for repairs.

My car will not start Intermittently. I purchased a new battery 2 weeks ago and yesterday the car wouldn’t start. Got a jump and
ANSWER : The issue you are having is probably due to an intermittent fault in the starter motor itself or a deficiency in the starter electrical circuit, for example a large voltage drop due to a poor ground or a high resistance connection. These issues can be readily diagnosed and resolved on a mobile basis if you request a hard starting diagnostic. If you request that diagnostic, the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you promptly. Based on Toyota’s Factory Service Manual, the battery should not be disconnected if the vehicle engine is running. The battery acts as a large resistive voltage sink and consequently taking the battery out of the circuit, while the alternator is still running, can create a voltage spike on the car’s electrical system which is not good for voltage sensitive components such as the engine computer. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Power steering loss, no belts are turning but the car is running fine. I also have a soft pedal. Whats wrong with my car?
ANSWER : I have only seen this situation once in my 30+ years and it turned out to be a broken crankshaft pulley. Belts are driven by the engine. The crankshaft pulley spins the belts, which in turn spin the air conditioner compressor, power steering and water pumps, and the alternator. The vehicle should be towed to your local repair shop and not driven. Without the water pump spinning to circulate the coolant, the engine will quickly overheat and result in more extensive damage.

I need to know the tempature difference inside a car (car turned off and windows are up) and outside a car during the summer
ANSWER : Hi, thanks for your question. I’d be happy to provide my insight. You may notice as much as a 40 or 50 degree (Fahrenheit) increase from the inside and outside the car in the summer. You can try and put an oven thermometer in the car and see how hot your car gets. This is why the AC takes a while to cool the inside of the car. The color of the car and interior color and material will also make a difference on how hot it gets. Here is also an article by us on how to quickly cool down a car on a hot day. Hope this helps and best of luck!
