I am having trouble with my Antilock Brake System. My car sat for a month in a parking lot. I started it up and I got a brake fault light and VSC vehicle stability control light on my dash. I took it to the repair garage to scan it and it said it’s the brake booster. So I replaced it with a new one, and I also got a new battery. Then when I went to start up the car and reset the system everything was OK. So I went on a test drive and not long after doing some firm braking the brake fault light came back on! ANSWER : Hello. If the brake pedal is going to the floor then that means that it is not building pressure. If the brake system has been fully bled and there is no air in it then most of the time it is a bad master cylinder or it can be caused by a bad ABS module. If the brake fluid was low and if air got into the system then the only way to properly bleed it is with a scan tool that would allow you to open and close the valves in the ABS unit. Air gets trapped in these easily if the brake fluid gets low. This can also explain why the brakes are locking up. I would usually use my scan tool to bleed the system out first before going any further. I would also scan the brake control module to see what it is reading as a fault. If there is no air in the system and if there is no prominent code then I would replace the master cylinder first. ANSWER : If you are going on a trip, then have a different mechanic check the system to make sure you do not have a problem with the anti-lock brakes. The brake pads would not have caused any of these lights to be on. Maybe the mechanic that did the brakes did not test the ABS of VSC. Have these systems checked to see if they have a code stored.
You may have a sensor for one of the wheels being bad. The grinding noise can be from the brake pad material (which is normal) or you may have another problem like wheel bearing issues. Only a brake check can tell what these issues are.

ANSWER : You definitely want to start by inspecting the front and rear wheel speed sensors; a failure in these circuits will result in several other problems. Begin by connecting a scanner to see if the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is registering the sensors accurately. With the scanner, you should be able to monitor all the wheel speed sensors while driving. Keep in mind, the rear wheel speed sensor is mounted on the transmission and is the sensor that runs your speedometer.
Once you determine which sensor is not registering, visually inspect the wiring harnesses and, if everything looks good, replace the sensor. In most cases, the sensor is the problem. If you suspect a wiring problem that isn’t visually apparent, you will need to do a continuity test from the PCM to the sensor connector.
If you determine that all the speed sensors are good, you should suspect a problem with ABS pump. The C0267 trouble code indicates there is a wiring problem in the harness to the ABS pump. It is possible that this is the main problem. To test this, you should disconnect the connector from the ABS pump and visually inspect the pins on both ends. A continuity test should be performed in this harness as well.
There are more test procedures for this that are a bit involved. If you are interested in digging more into this, you should pick up a factory repair manual, not a Chilton. The factory repair manuals are superior and you definitely want good information to make a correct diagnosis of your car.
