My car has 210000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
The fuel pump will not stay on if you loose oil pressure. This is why it is shutting off. The loss of oil pressure may be from bad crankshaft bearings or camshaft bearings. The engine oil pan should be removed and the oil pump needs to be checked to ensure that you put in the pick up tube seal to the pump and connected the pump to the block. Then remove at least one main bearing cap and inspect the bearings for excessive wear and crankshaft damage. If you need some help with this, consider YourMechanic, as a certified technician can help diagnose the issue with your oil pressure firsthand and help you fix it accordingly.

Best Answer. Hot at idle 35-38 psi at 700 rpm, 1500 rpm 55 psi stable, at 2200 rpm 60 psi new oil pump and the Engine is a 5.3 B code Engine with 237000 miles. Kenneth P. 25 people think this is helpful.
Best Answer. Warmed up oil pressure would idle at like 20, 25 lbs, up to 40-60 lbs. when rpms are up. If you think you have a oil pressure issue, first take out the oil pressure sending unit.
Oil Level Is Too Low

The oil level dropping below the minimum dipstick line is one of the most common causes of low oil pressure. This can happen at any time, even if you`ve recently had an oil change. Over time, engines burn oil more quickly. This is due to piston rings wearing, seals leaking, and so on.

Oil pressure sensor socket 1-1/16.
Capacity: 8 quarts (with filter).
The ideal oil pressure varies depending on the car brand and model, but generally, the ideal oil pressure is between 25-65 PSI.
When the oil pressure is low, it indicates something is not working properly. It also means there likely is not enough lubricant moving through the system. Keep in mind that lubricant starvation will lead to metal-to-metal contact and machine failure.
Without sufficient oil pressure, your car`s engine will operate with decreased lubrication and increased friction resulting in more heat. Engine overheating can be a complex issue. While it doesn`t always mean low engine oil pressure, low engine oil pressure can lead to an overheating engine.
Oil-filter problem

An oil filter obstruction or blockage can also cause oil pressure to suffer. Oil filters include pressure relief valves. If this valve is damaged, oil will easily pass right through, reducing pressure. It may go without saying, but it is important to also change the oil filter with each oil change.

The engine oil pressure sensor, also known as the oil pressure switch or oil pressure sending unit, is a small component installed between the oil filter and your car`s oil pan. The sensor plays a vital role in making sure your engine functions well.
Code P0521 is a generic OBDII fault code that indicates an oil pressure issue or problems with your oil pressure sensor.
Capacity: 6 quarts (with filter). After refill check oil level.
If your 2022 Silverado is powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine, it`s important to use SAE 0W-20 viscosity grade motor oil.
One common problem seen in the 5.3-liter engine is a failure of the valve cover to seal, which can cause heavy oil burn. Depending on the wear-and-tear on your vehicles, you may be able to get away with having the rings cleaned and getting a replacement valve cover that will seal again.
Oil pressure is measured in PSI and the perfect amount of oil pressure varies depending on what brand and model car you own. In general, if the pressure is below 20 PSI or under the normal range on the gauge it requires your immediate attention.
The oil level dropping below the minimum dipstick line is one of the most common reasons behind low engine oil pressure. Your car`s engine oil level may be low due to an overdue oil change, an oil leak, or wear and tear. Without sufficient oil, the oil pump will not be able to generate enough pressure.
All 5.3 with DoD have that screen.
a worn or failing pump will cause a loss of oil pressure.
The oil detection sensor works by measuring the level of light. An LED inside the device shines light onto a photoelectric cell. When oil touches the sensing probe it deflects some of the light, activating the unit.
Engines can work without oil, but the effect is so damaging they are only capable of running for less than 30 minutes until failing – and in most cases, it`s a lot quicker than that.
The oil pressure is reading 0. It does not need oil. Oil pressure in a vehicle can still be at zero even if it is full of oil. The oil pressure is developed by the oil pump located inside the engine.
For oil to reach the oil pressure sensor, the oil has to pass through an AFM oil filter screen. This hidden screen is a small filter positioned below the oil pressure sensor.
If your oil filter needs replaced, the car will not accelerate as well as it normally would, and the accelerator may feel as though it isn`t working properly. The engine will run, but not as well as it should. Continuing to drive a vehicle like this can damage essential parts of the engine.
The oil pressure sensor monitors the performance of the oil pump and sends this information to the engine control unit (ECU) on computer-controlled vehicles or directly to the oil pressure gauge on your instrument cluster for non (ECU) equipped vehicles.

after replacing oil pan gasket, low oil level light stays on, but oil level and pressure are normal?
ANSWER : Bob: Thanks for your inquiry. Oil level and oil pressure are measured using separate sensing systems. If the level sensing feature stopped working at the time the pan gasket was replaced, either the level sensor was damaged, not reconnected, or the wire harness and terminal were damaged. There is a possibility that the wire harness was just never re-connected to the level sensor so check that first. If you desire that this problem be diagnosed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a warning light diagnostic – oil level and the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. My car has low oil pressure. I’ve already changed the oil pressure sensor 3 times.
ANSWER : If you have replaced the sensor three times and it did not fix the problem, then you may have problems with the oil pressure being low at idle due to wear in the engine bearings. The reason it would be fine sometimes and not others may be due to engine load and temperature changes. Have the oil pressure tested at the sensor port to see if it is low and needs engine repairs.

I recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, come to your location to perform an inspection to determine why the Oil Pressure Light is on.

Fit a modified AUDI TT oil pump to the car, replaced the oil pressure sensor, but oil pressure light still on! 2005 Volkswagon
ANSWER : Hello – I would first put a real oil pressure gauge on the port for the oil pressure switch and see what real pressure looks like before driving it. Low oil pressure light switches trigger at only about 5 psi, so if the switch/gauge are working correctly, you’ve got real problems (worn connecting rod and crankshaft main bearings most likely) with this engine. I recommend a low oil pressure inspection performed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, and give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

Can the oil pan gasket replacement be done at home? 2006 Lincoln Ls V8. Does it use just a liquid gasket or does it use an actual gasket?
ANSWER : Hi there. The oil pan gasket is either a gasket of cork or rubber (silicone molded) or a spread of RTV Silicone. The oil pan gasket can be removed at home, you will just have to jack up the vehicle and set it on jack stands. It is best to have the whole vehicle on jack stands, however, if you only have two jack stands, be sure to set the parking brake and put wheel chocks behind the rear wheels. If you need further assistance with replacing the oil pan gasket, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Low oil pressure light comes on when idle. Check engine light is on as well. Both came on after getting an oil change 3 days ago.
ANSWER : It is possible that they put in the wrong viscosity oil. In rare instances, a defective filter will also cause low pressure. If there is too much oil, it will aerate and cause low pressure. Be sure the oil level is really not above "max". The P2187 code will appear if the oil fill cap is not tight but it will also appear due to a myriad of causes because that code only "generally" identifies a lean running condition. Consequently, numerous parts would have to be tested including the O2 sensor, gas cap seal, manifold air leaks, any vacuum leak anywhere including PCV and EVAP systems, exhaust leaks, and fuel system faults such as failing fuel pump, clogged filter and more. Since the car has relatively low mileage, you would not expect a failed oil pump, although the pressure sensor (or switch) could be bad. However, the occurrence of the oil pressure warning light is quite coincidental to the oil change, thus I would suggest bringing the car back and asking them to redo with a new filter and double check the viscosity of the new oil that they use. If the problem persists after that, you will have to test actual operating oil pressure (at idle for instance) as well as the oil pressure switch. Finally, if the oil pressure warning light comes on continuously, unless the warning circuit itself is malfunctioning, that means the oil pressure is too low to operate the engine without damaging it. Anytime the light comes on for more than literally an instant, you should shut down the car and thus an issue like this obviously has to be repaired.

If you’d like, a YourMechanic certified mechanic can come to your home or place of business to inspect the vehicle and perform an oil pressure light is on inspection to diagnose the vehicle and suggest potential repairs.

I’m getting an "Oil Pump Pressure Is Low" warning light on my dash, followed by loud tapping sounds from the engine.
ANSWER : The oil pressure sensor only "reads" and reports pressure. The sensor itself cannot "affect" or "set" pump pressure. If the oil pressure warning light illuminates AND there is coincident unusual engine noise, that almost undoubtedly means that oil pressure really is too low and you should turn off the engine immediately to prevent damage. If the engine oil level is too low, that can cause low pressure so be sure to check the level on the dipstick. If the oil level is OK, then the lubrication system will have to be diagnosed and that would, of course, include consideration of the possibility that your oil pump has failed. To get this resolved, please request an oil pressure diagnostic. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Are thse current and relevant prices for this service, and how long does it take? REPLACE AUX VACUUM PUMP (OIL LEAKING FROM A
ANSWER : Hi there. It really depends on who provided you with this diagnosis as to how long the repairs would take to complete. In regards to not including the seals listed at the bottom, this is not advised. The seals protect the components from leaking and will also reduce the potential of overheating on your vehicle.
