My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
It is possible that the brake job had an effect on it but this would only be the case if something were done incorrectly. It is also possbile that the brake booster had a fault that was waiting to happend and coinsedentaly it happened after the brake job. I would start by having your vehicle scanned for trouble codes to see if any codes related to the brake booster are present. This will assist in diagnosing this issue. Also, explain to the technician who inspects your vehicle exactly what symptoms you are experiencing with your brakes to further aid in the diagnosis. Consider YourMechanic for your brake inspection as it can be done from your home or office.

With proper upkeep and TLC, the Cayenne SUV may last you up to 150,000 to 200,000 miles. Unfortunately, in terms of pure reliability, the Cayenne is not the most reliable. With a reliability rating of 1.5 out of 5.0 from RepairPal, the Cayenne is the least reliable midsize luxury SUV.
Early Cayenne Turbo models with the 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 suffered problems with cracked plastic coolant pipes, which can leak coolant onto the engine and force it to overheat. Most of these plastic pipes have been updated to aluminum.
Automatic emergency braking and parking sensors come standard. Optional equipment includes adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitors, and active lane control.

The Cayenne on average gets between 200,000 and 250,000 miles and can last up to 11.3 years—that`s the longest average lifespan of any other Porsche model.

Porsche 911 engine mileage can be rated at 100,000 miles and 10 years. Like any vehicle, Porsche 911s last longer with proper and routine maintenance and care. Most Porsche vehicles will last you up to the 150,000-mile marker and beyond.
Consumer Reports` reliability surveys have also found that manufacturers with a lot of experience building turbocharged engines—Audi, BMW, Porsche—tend to have more reliable powertrains.
If your Porsche Cayenne jerks, then there is something wrong with its engine. Having defective spark plugs can make the engine struggle to stay operational. Besides, an imbalanced air-fuel ratio within the cylinders due to failing air and fuel intake systems can also make the engine jerk when accelerating.

Cayennes do not use “belts” that need to be changed every 6o k miles. They use metal chains – i primary and two secondary. There is a cam tensioner that is a service item. R&I job for timing chains runs about 5-6k.
Thanks to technology transfer from our race cars, Porsche Original Brakes achieve a constant braking effect even under high loads. The internally vented brake discs – which may also be cross-drilled – provide improved wet braking and optimal cooling.
Porsche Cayenne brake pads usually last between 30,000 and 70,000 miles depending on your driving habits.
Typically, 2022 Porsche Cayenne rotors need to be entirely replaced every 30,000 – 80,000 miles depending on the factors above. It is always best to reference your Porsche Cayenne maintenance manual for additional details.

I just had a brake job done to my 2006 Cayenne and a couple of days later I get a faulty brake booster signal. Brake job?

EPC light on 2004 Jetta. Code said brake switch faulty, but brakes lights worked. Replaced brake switch, now no brake lights.
ANSWER : Hi there. The first thing that pops in my mind beyond of what you have listed is perhaps the electrical harness attached to the brake switch. Perhaps the harness itself is damaged or you have an exposed wire, loose ground wire somewhere. You might want to have a professional mobile mechanic come to your location and complete a brake lights not working inspection to help you diagnose this issue.

Low brake pedal and anti-lock brakes are not kicking in.
ANSWER : The brake pedal is working to stop the vehicle, but there may be air in the controller unit causing the ABS brakes to not function. I recommend bleeding the brake system from the farthest location from the master cylinder to the master cylinder including the ABS unit. If the brakes are still spongy after a full bleed, then the controller will need to be replaced. If you need further assistance with your brake pedal being spongy, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

When I put my foot on the brake my back left brake light goes off, when I take it off the brake the brake light comes on
ANSWER : I would suggest trying to disconnect and reconnect the wiring to the rear lights. I have seen these older Toyota vehicles rear lighting short out on the lights themselves due to the way the light circuit was made on the lamp housing. Look at the housing circuit on the light to see if one is touching another, and that could tell you why it is malfunctioning. There could also be a problem with the brake light switch. If you are not comfortable dealing with wires, I recommend getting in touch with a certified mechanic who can look at your brake light issue for you to see what’s going on.

I have a 2006 BMW X5. my brakes just started grinding. Do I need to get them done now or can I wait for a few days
ANSWER : Hello, thank you for writing in. It is difficult to say how bad the issue is without doing further inspections on the brake system. The grinding may be coming from something stuck in the brakes (between the caliper and the rotor), from the braking material on the pads being worn down, or from a hydraulic issue. Without knowing what is causing the grinding, we do not know how dangerous the issue may be. If the grinding is a result of worn brake pads, then the amount of time you have depends on the amount of material left on the other brakes. You are likely okay to drive short trips for a day or two. The longer you wait, the more damage you are doing to the calipers and rotors, and the more expensive getting the system working will be. For more help with resolving the brake grinding, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.

Hard brake pedal and rear brakes locking up.
ANSWER : Hi. I will help you with this issue you are having with your 2001 Durango. Unless you bled the master cylinder, it is possible there is still air in the system. If you car is equipped with ABS, air could have also gotten trapped in the ABS modulator. If ABS equipped, a bi-directional scan tool would be essential to manually activate the ABS system to clear air from that segment of the lines while you are bleeding the system. It is also possible that in all of this work somehow the proportioning valve has been affected causing the desired pressure differential, front versus back, to get out of spec. Using a 2,500 PSI gauge, you can check the pressures at each wheel and that will definitely give you a clue as to which brake circuit is the issue (or both), whether the proportioning valve is working properly and whether the line pressures at each wheel are within spec. Should you need a second opinion, by all means feel free to contact YourMechanic for assistance and we will diagnose and repair the issue for you.

Supportive bar attached to brake pedal interrupts proper braking process
ANSWER : It’s possible to have someone alter the brake pedal or adapt a brake pedal from a different vehicle. You may call around to some customization shops to see if anyone is interested in taking on the project. But first, I would try reaching out to the selling dealer with your concern – especially since it is a new model. Good luck.

I got my brake booster replaced that same day I noticed my brake pedal being to high up hard to push up and the shifts no respond
ANSWER : Hi there. Honestly, I’m somewhat confused as to why the brake booster was replaced by the repair shop, when your vehicle was 100% perfect taking it to the shop. The symptoms you have described are that of a failed brake booster. The repair shop should have the opportunity to correct the problem, I would assume at no charge. The lack of acceleration may be the brakes are applied, without stepping on the brake pedal. I recommend having your vehicle’s high, hard brake pedal be diagnosed and repaired by a certified technician, such as one from YourMechanic.
