Engine block rod came out. Now I need to change my engine.

I threw a rod through the engine block. I know that i need a new engine. I am told that a jeep liberty from 2002-2003 has an engine that is interchangeable and because i cannot find a cheap used 2.4l engine anywhere because it is fairly rare i am looking into what i can do. The liberty engine is a 3.7l and its 6 cylinders while mine was a 2.4 and 4 cylinders. Is this going to be an issue to change? Like wouldn't i need to adjust the computer and whatnot to make this work?

My car has 100000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

The 3.7 liter V6 engine from the Liberty was also an option on the Wrangler. However, in order to replace the engine to a V6, replacement of the powertrain control module would be required to make this work. Different engine mounts, brackets, A/C and power steering lines, as well as electrical connectors may be required to make this work. Unless you are doing an engine swap for performance, I would recommend against doing this replacement considering all the work involved. If you can not find another four cylinder engine for your vehicle, unfortunately, it will likely cost much more to install the V6 and might be more beneficial to search for another vehicle

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced mechanics :

5.3 Engines are a great choice and offer the most budget friendly conversions due to the availability and cost. The 5.3 makes great power for a average built 4 door JK. You can pull a small trailer and have plenty of power for the highway.
However, of all the swaps out there, the 5.7 Hemi swap is going to be the easiest. Since the Hemi is a Mopar product (like Jeep), it goes in with the least amount of fuss versus lets say an LS swap. This is why it`s so common to see Hemi swaps in JKs, because it`s a very, very documented swap.
You can either swap another engine that`s designed to work in the car you have, or you can swap in one that`s totally different. As you might imagine, swapping in a completely new engine is way more difficult than putting in a manufacturer approved alternate engine.
The difficulty of performing a swap varies based on the combination of the auto body and the engine you are working with. Even the most straightforward swap, however, can be tricky. Each engine requires its own electronic system, and your transmission, fuel delivery, and steering may also need to be updated.
History of the Chrysler 2.4L TigerShark Engine

In 2009, Chrysler bought out its partners to take exclusive ownership of the engine design and manufacture.

So, other ways to figure out if you have a JK, TJ, or YJ – as well as the vehicle year – are through the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Most insurance cards list this number and you can enter it on Jeep`s website here.
There are plenty of Jeep enthusiasts who say they`ve had success swapping vintage small-block Ford and Chevy V8s into their JLs. Listed below are some of the most popular engine swaps and how practical they are for the JL Wrangler.
The driving force behind every trek you take in the Wrangler is its engine – choose between four-, six-, or eight-cylinder engines, and gas, diesel, or the all-new plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrain. See the accompanying chart to learn more about the performance specs available for each Wrangler engine option. 260 lb. -ft.
The best three models for off-roading (in order) are the Willys, the Rubicon, and the newer Rubicon 392. If you`re looking for a good daily driver that is also off-road capable, the Willys is a great option. Hardcore off-roaders, on the other hand, will benefit most from the Rubicon and Rubicon 392 models.
Depending on the reason behind the swap, you can replace the old engine with an identical one that`s in better running condition or with one that offers better performance and reliability. Either way, engine swaps make a lot of sense for someone rebuilding their classic car.
It`s definitely possible to put a new engine in an older vehicle, but you`ll want to check that it`s compatible with components of the car like the transmission. If it works, replacing the engine will make your car more powerful and more reliable.
Swapping out a damaged engine with a lower mileage used engine (from a wreck for example) is risky and not advisable. Especially since some makes and models have engines that are known to have a high rate of engine rebuild history.
Another factor that heavily impacts the cost of an engine swap is whether you need a new transmission. You generally won`t need to replace the transmission, even when your engine has been totaled. If your old transmission can be salvaged, you`ll save yourself a lot of money!
The LEA is an engine produced by General Motors for a wide variety of compact and midsize vehicles. Displacing 2.4 liters in an inline-four configuration, the LEA is part of the Ecotec engine family. It features direct injection, variable valve timing, and is capable of running on E85 fuel.
Is a 2.4 engine good? The 2.4 is usually considered a dependable engine without any major issues: head gaskets are designed well while the oil sealing is adequate as well.
Known internally as the TJ — following Jeep`s two-letter coding convention — the 1997-2006 Wrangler offers classic Jeep ability at an affordable price.
Compared to the YJ, the TJ`s frame was given a 100 percent increase in torsional stiffness. The frame was an additional 15 percent stiffer with an additional 8-inch lift. Even more important than that, the TJ used a four-corner quadra-coil suspension in lieu of the YJ`s leaf springs.
Each Jeep model, (with few exceptions) comes with a two-character abbreviation: JK – Wrangler 2007 – present. LJ – Wrangler Unlimited 2003 – 2006. TJ – Wrangler 1997 – 2006. YJ – Wrangler 1987 – 1995.
Overall, Edmunds recommends the Wrangler Rubicon. It is the most capable version when the going gets really tough, and it comes with every available engine and transmission.

I Had my oil changed on 5/28/16. On 5/31/16 the check engine light came on. On 6/5/16 the low oil pressure turn off engine came on
ANSWER : Hello,

From what you describe it would not appear to me that something went wrong during your oil change.

If the level is correct on the dipstick and the engine runs and sounds okay, then it is probably something else.

A likely cause for a problem such as this can be a defective oil pressure sensor, or wiring.

Virtually all vehicles have a dedicated oil sensor that will monitor oil pressure of the engine and set off a warning light if it falls to low, in order to protect the engine. If the sensor fails however, it can send a false reading to the computer or gauge, and cause the warning light to activate by mistake.

I would recommend having the vehicle’s oil pressure sensor tested for accuracy, and if necessary the engine’s oil pressure to make sure that there is no issue with the oil pump or system of the engine, as unlikely as that may be.

I’d recommend having a certified mechanic inspect the vehicle for you, they will be able to check for these failures and diagnose your Check Engine Light in order to get your car running normally again.

Check engine light refuses to go off after engine replaced
ANSWER : Hello there, you have a long series of issues going on with your 2013 Hyundai Sonata. If you keep getting a repeating oil light on than there is likely a fault in that system.

Since this fault has lasted after the engine was replaced it could be a oil pressure sensor, wiring harness fault, ECU fault, oil pump, oil strainer clogged, or low oil pressure.

To diagnose this issue properly you need a complete vehicle inspection to start from square one and identify the root cause of all this.

Check Engine Light is on, trouble code P0011&12. I changed the oil and filter. I need to turn off the engine light to see if that problem is solved.
ANSWER : Hello. If the oil level was low or if the wrong oil war previously used then that can cause these codes to come up. Most of the time though, on this engine, it is caused by a failure in the timing chain. The timing chain is the most common failure on this engine and when it is stretched enough the cam timing will be off enough to cause this. If you want to have this camshaft timing looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose why the check engine light is still on and address any issues that are found.

p0011 code, check engine light one, changed bank 1 vvt solenoid and check engine light still on?
ANSWER : The P0011 code is typically caused by oil issues with the car. I would particularly make sure the engine oil level is not low. The VVT solenoid relies on proper oil levels to do their job. If they don’t have enough oil, they won’t work. You can have a mobile technician from YourMechanic visit your home or office to inspect the Check Engine Light for you. If you follow through with a repair with us you will be reimbursed for the cost of inspection.

I took an engine from a 2002 Dodge Intrepid and put it in a 2000 Chrysler 300M do I need to leave the fuse block under the hood fr
ANSWER : Hi there. I wish we could really help you, but the reality is that this type of engine swap always has issues like you’ve described, but the fuse box is only one part of the issue you’re going to have to deal with. The main issue is due to the fact that the ECU and electrical system in the original vehicle does not connection correctly with the newer engine you have installed. Having engines link with the existing ECU happens about 50% of the time. The only way to resolve this problem is to contact a dealership, purchase a new ECU and have them program it to the new engine. In regards to the fuse box, replacing one from the vehicle, not the engine is best.

The engine klunking and tapping, needs engine replacemet
ANSWER : The reason the shops told you to replace the engine is that they do not overhaul engines. They can only replace it for you with a remanufactured or used engine. An overhaul is a third option but would most likely not be as cost effective and may even cost you more since the labor and parts can be more than replacing it. Since you already had two shops say it needs an engine, then I would suggest having them both give you quotes on remanufactured or used one. Make sure to get the warranty in writing so you can see if a future failure is covered.

Engine swap details needed. I need to know if the swap will fit.
ANSWER : Hi there. When it comes to swapping engines for your vehicle, what you can do is check all of the engine mounts and transmission mounts and make sure that they will work. If the mounts are a little off but there is room, then you may have to retro fit a custom mount. Check the length of the engine and the transmission assembly together. Make sure that the assembly is the same length. It may be okay if it’s a few inches shorter or longer, however, it cannot exceed 3 inches or the assembly will not fit. There has to be room for the engine to move around. Also, keep in mind, the CV shafts may not match up to the transmission and wheel hubs, especially if the transmission is shorter or longer. If you need further assistance with swapping your engine with another engine, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.
