My Tach doesn’t read correctly sometimes. Power locks and wiper blades don’t work all the time.

Start the truck up and the tach will read 500 rpm most of the time when cruising (Truck sounds just fine). Power Locks on the doors, and the wiper blades dont work all the time. Sometimes when they dont work, I will turn the truck off then on then they work just fine.

My car has 130000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
The problem with your tach sounds like it may be within the mechanical workings of the tachometer itself. If the gears that moves the needle around start to wear, you may have a bouncing needle or it can stop in one place. While the vehicle is hooked to a scan tool, you can watch the engine rpm on the scanner and if that reads 500 rpm as well as on the dash and the engine is definitely spinning faster, the sensor may be at fault. The power door locks and wiper problem may be separate problems as they don’t share many circuits. A loose ground connection can cause this type of problem as well as failing command switches or the relays that control these components. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come by for a closer look at the faulted electrical circuits to see where this bug is.

INTERMITTENT FAILS

Check the wiring, connectors and switch contacts. If OK, suspect a faulty intermittent control box. If the wipers stop halfway, check wiring to the self-parking circuit from the switch and control box.

The most common reasons a Dodge Ram 1500 windshield wipers aren`t working are broken wiper motor and issues with the switch.
If you notice that your windshield wipers stop working altogether, then it is a good sign that something has happened to the motor. As an electrical component, the motor can short out, causing the wipers to fail. However, it is also possible that there is a loose or disconnected wire in the circuit.
306,000 Ram HD Trucks Recalled for Electrical Fault That Could Cause Fire. Owners are told not to park the vehicles inside garages or buildings until the problem is fixed. Included in the recall are 2021–2023 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and chassis-cab trucks with the 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine.
The intermittent DC relay is used for controlling the windshield wiper`s operation.
There`s an electric motor solely dedicated to powering your windshield wipers. As an electrical appliance, this motor can short out which will cause your wipers to not move at all. The fuse in your motor can also blow which will cause the same outcome.
Autowipers uses a rain sensor located in the area around the interior mirror. The rain sensor monitors the amount of moisture on the windshield and automatically turns the wipers on.
This is normally caused by one the following issues: Defective battery. Bad alternator. A blown fuse.
The windshield wiper module, or governor, controls the wiper motor operation. The module receives input from the wiper switch, and in some cases from various sensors as well. It is responsible for determining wiper speed and parking.
When adjusting the windscreen wipers, you must twist the wiper blades over the wiper arm. Be very careful when doing this because the material is flexible and can easily break if too much force is applied or it`s twisted too much. Therefore, always adjust the angle in small steps only.
Most wipers have a low and a high speed, as well as an intermittent setting. When the wipers are on low and high speed, the motor runs continuously. But in the intermittent setting, the wipers stop momentarily between each wipe.
There are 2 fuses for the wiper/washer system. If your windshield wipers work, then they are both good. One fuse is located in the under-hood fuse block (wiper fuse #14 , 25amp). The second fuse is located on the body control module, which is located inside the center console, behind the panel on the right side of it.
Common signs include the wiper blades only working on one speed or a different speed than you selected, not working at all, and making humming noises.

Loses power when reaches a certain speed limit sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t when it works cruise control works
ANSWER : Hey there. This may likely be related to a bad O2 sensor. As you may know, the O2 sensor monitors the oxygen content of the exhaust gases as they leave the catalytic converter to determine how much additional fuel to add or subtract to the air/fuel mixture. When this sensor is not working properly, you may experience poor running conditions as a result of the car being over or under fueled depending on the circumstances. This may cause the car to starve for fuel or be flooded with too much fuel. I would recommend having an expert from YourMechanic come to your home to take a look at your car to properly diagnose the loss of power and move forward with repairs.

Gas gauge isn’t working. Sometimes the speedometer and the temperature gauge doesn’t work. Limited lights around gauges and radio.
ANSWER : Hi there. The dashboard lights are burned out in the dash and the dimmer switch could be worn causing the lights to be weak. The gauges that seldom fail to work is most likely a loose wire in the dash panel. The fuel gauge that is not going to E when shutting off the car has a damaged rheostat within the sending unit. The sending unit is in the fuel tank attached to the fuel pump. If you need further assistance with your gauges not working, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

Front Passenger Lock sometimes does not lock with a remote control or by locking button located on either doors.
ANSWER : The solenoid is on the door latch and is most likely the cause of the problem for your 2005 Toyota Tacoma. If you want to have this inspected and repaired, a certified technician from YourMechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door lock and perform the correct replacement.

Car starting sometimes, sometimes have to jump, speedometer and tach working but all other gauges not working 2003 GMC Yukon
ANSWER : Hi there – check fuses first, but it sounds like you might have a problem with your digital dash, and possibly a wiring issue that is draining your battery overnight. The lack of gauge function is is a high failure rate circuit board issue, but there are rebuilder service companies out there that specialize in this work. The battery drain issue maybe be a different problem, but can be tracked down as well. This problem can be diagnosed by connecting an ammeter to the positive (red) battery cable, observe the current drain (likely less than 1 amp), then, one at a time, remove each fuse, check to see if the current drain has dropped to near 0, then reinsert the fuse. This process should identify the faulty circuit in most cases. The specific components on that circuit can then be checked for current drain problems. A professional mechanic, like YourMechanic, can come to your location, and perform this procedure for you, and replace/repair the failing component.

Automatic locks do not work properly.
ANSWER : Hi there. When the locks look as if they are trying to move but do not, it’s typically due to a fault with the primary module or relay that powers the door locks. There are many different components that make up the power lock system, so before you attempt to remove or replace the module, you might want to have a professional mobile mechanic complete a power door locks are not working inspection.

2000 escalade will not lock with the key in the ignition, it only chimes and doesn’t engage lock.
ANSWER : Hi there. If the driver door is not locking with the door ajar and the key in the ignition, that is normal. If all of the doors are not engaging the locks with the key in the ignition and the engine off, that also is normal. If the engine is running and the transmission is in park, then the doors should lock and unlock, but auto lock when putting the vehicle in drive (if your vehicle has that function). Try this:

Remove the key from the ignition
Take the battery cable off the battery and put it back on
Take the key and put it into the driver door
Turn the key once to unlock the driver door
Turn the key again and the other doors should lock
Unlock the driver door and open the door
Put the key in the ignition and turn it to ’ON’
Hold down on the lock button to lock all of the doors and turn off the key
Turn on the key to the ’ON’ position and release the door lock button
Hold down on the unlock button to unlock all of the doors and turn of the key
Turn on the key to the ’ON’ position and release the door unlock button

This should program the computer system to unlock and lock the doors by the door lock switches. If this does not seem to work, then there is an issue with the programming in the computer or a failed door lock button on the driver door. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you with your doors not locking if you are unable to get them to lock.

Windshield wipers stopped working. They’ll suddenly stop working then suddenly start working again. Has been happening for a week.
ANSWER : The problem you are describing likely stems from an intermittent electrical fault in the wiper circuit. The windshield wiper system uses a small electric motor to move the wiper arms that you see on the windshield. That electric motor is controlled through a switch, relay, fuse, and wiring. One, or more, of those electrical components has failed although it is also possible that the mechanical arms are binding (seized, if the lubricant has dried out) thus causing the electric circuit to the motor to overload. Regardless of the underlying fault, if you request a non functioning wiper diagnostic/repair, the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
