I did my brakes on my santa fe all except the rear passenger rotor. this morning the e brake on the rear passenger side locked up while leaving my drive-way. Does anyone know why this might be happening??

My car has 184000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
The cable that you are referring to is made of ordinary steel and thus is subject to a lot of rust and corrosion. If rusted, it is possible that the cable is simply failing to retract in the cable sheath, even though you have released the emergency park. If you would like this e-brake failure to be inspected and resolved, the recommended service is parking brake cable replacement. The responding certified mechanic will inspect the e-brake system and if the cable is faulty, recommend replacement. If the fault is not in the cable, but instead in another system component, of course the mechanic will alternatively identify the other fault. If you have additional questions, do not hesitate to follow up.

How to Identify and Fix Common car Problems ?

A parking brake controls the rear brakes and is a completely separate device from your vehicle`s regular hydraulic brakes. It is in charge of keeping a parked vehicle stationary; it will prevent the car from rolling down a hill or moving.
Bad Switch: One common reason for the Parking Brake light to stay on is a failing or failed switch. This can be checked easily by jiggling the handle after it is down. If the light turns off (or turns off and then back on), the switch is the most likely culprit and will need to be replaced.
Whereas a traditional handbrake uses a cable to draw in the brake shoes at the rear wheels, electronic ones use a switch to activate a pair of motors which then engage the rear brakes.
Press and hold the EPB switch until the brake warning light on the instrument panel starts to flash. Continue to hold the switch until the flash goes off. 4. Release the switch and press it again, the parking brake should now be reset.
The emergency brake, or parking brake as it`s sometimes called, works independently from the brakes that you tap to stop your car. It`s that way on purpose so you have access to an alternative braking system should your primary brakes fail.
It is not recommended to use the parking brake when the vehicle is in-motion, unless there is a problem with the main brakes, as this can lock the back wheels and cause a skid.
Advanced Driver Assistance System of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. It also comes with a range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that are designed to prevent accidents before they happen. These include lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking.
In an emergency, the parking brake can be activated when the vehicle is moving by pressing and holding in the button. The brakes will then be applied with force in order to brake the vehicle. The braking process is canceled when the button is released or if the accelerator pedal is depressed.
This is the most typical cause of your brake light becoming illuminated on your dashboard. The parking brake sensor will activate the brake warning light if the parking brake is still engaged. This occurs when the vehicle parking brake is not entirely disengaged, and the answer is to disengage it.
Typically, your brake system warning light being on means your parking brake is engaged, but if you`re still seeing the red (or orange) warning on your dash while the parking brake is disengaged, you will need to get your brakes inspected as soon as possible.
There are two mechanisms that are currently in production, Cable puller systems and Caliper integrated systems. EPB systems can be considered a subset of Brake-by-wire technology.
Things You Should Know

Alternatively, check the fuse for the electric parking brake in the fuse box to see if it needs to be replaced. If that doesn`t work, see a mechanic if you have wiring issues or the servo motor isn`t working correctly.

One uses the same brake pads your brake pedal actuates, although the parking brake uses only the brakes on the two rear wheels, rather than all four.
Yes, you can use the parking brake as an emergency brake if your car`s main brakes suffer a total failure. But you need to be cautious before attempting such a manoeuvre. Since the handbrake engages the rear brakes, you may lock up the rear wheels, and the car may spin out of control.
No, the handbrake does not lock all wheels, the vast majority of production cars and light trucks have parking brakes on just the rear wheels. There may be a few oddball designs that brake the front.
Parking brakes don`t require much maintenance. In fact, the best way to maintain your emergency brake is to use it! Each time the brake is engaged, it automatically adjusts. Keep in mind though, that while they do adjust automatically, they do require occasional cleaning.
Also known as a parking brake, hand brake and e-brake, the emergency brake was originally designed to be used if the vehicle`s main braking system would fail. However, in today`s vehicles, the parking brake doesn`t have enough stopping power to bring the car to a halt.
Where do AEB and BAS differ? AEB doesn`t require the driver`s foot pedal action to initiate the braking. It applies the brakes automatically. It`s important to note this difference because BAS does require the driver to step on the brakes to benefit.
If you drive an automatic, you need to shift to “P” and engage the parking brake to park the car. There are however, two different types of people in terms of the sequence of action. Some shift to “P” first, and then engage the parking brake, while some engage the parking brake first, and then shift to “P”.
The parking brake warning switch is a part in your vehicle that will alert you if one of your brake circuits is not working correctly. Most vehicles have two hydraulic circuits, one that applies the front brakes, and one that applies the rear brakes.
If both the ABS and the brake system light come on at the same time, your vehicle is no longer safe to drive. This means there is a serious problem with the car`s braking system and continuing to drive puts yourself and others at risk.
A red light that flashes on and off could signal low/almost empty brake fluid, but also a serious issue with the brake`s hydraulic system. If the light comes on and stays on, you could end up with a potentially catastrophic (and costly) brake failure.
If you leave your parking brake on for too long (like if your car is in storage during winter) it can become stuck or frozen in place.
Explanation: In most vehicles, the parking brake operates on the rear wheels only. The function of the parking brake (handbrake) is to stop the vehicle from moving when it is parked or when it is stopped on a hill.

Driver side door lock button not working, and passenger side sliding door makes a buzzing noise
ANSWER : Hi there. These door issues are common on this vehicle. Most of the time the main issue is the master door lock switch on the driver door. It sounds like you already replaced that. As for the sliding door problem, most of the time, this is a failure within the door module or it can be a connection issue.

I typically take the door apart and check the connections on the module and inside of the door just to make sure that there is nothing apparent in there. If the connections and the wiring are fine, then I use a scan tool to check the module to see what the inputs and outputs are doing. If you need to have this looked at, consider YourMechanic, as a certified mechanic can come to your home or office to diagnose your door problem and recommend a repair.

I was told that my passenger side rear brake caliper was locked up.
ANSWER : To perform a full overhaul of the braking system, you should replace the pads on the rear, the locked caliper, possibly the pads on the front if they are worn and flush out the dirty overheated brake fluid. If the rear rotors meet a specific thickness measurement, they may machined or resurfaced to have a fresh new surface for the new pads. You should at least have the stuck caliper replaced, rotors machined or replaced and replace the brake pads on the rear to make the vehicle safe again. Consider hiring an experienced technician like one from YourMechanic who can come out and take a closer look at your braking system and offer a more personal repair estimate for your concerns.

all doors lock only by inserting key in passenger side door and locking
ANSWER : Your central locking system may have been designed with a control module in the circuit. This is a small computer that is responsible for controlling the different functions of a particular system. It is possible that the module for your central locking system may have shorted out internally preventing particular functions from working properly. I would recommend having a certified technician test your central locking module to determine if all of its functions are working properly.

Low brake pedal and anti-lock brakes are not kicking in.
ANSWER : The brake pedal is working to stop the vehicle, but there may be air in the controller unit causing the ABS brakes to not function. I recommend bleeding the brake system from the farthest location from the master cylinder to the master cylinder including the ABS unit. If the brakes are still spongy after a full bleed, then the controller will need to be replaced. If you need further assistance with your brake pedal being spongy, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

My brakes were redone and since the repair they have been locking up
ANSWER : Hi There,
A few different things can cause this to happen. In some cases if the piston inside the brake calipers is damaged when replacing the pads, this can cause them to lock up this way. This can also happen if the brake line is pinched which can result in the brake fluid reaching the calipers, but not being released back to the master cylinder which forces the pad against the rotor causing it to lock up the brakes. I would suggest having an expert from YourMechanic come to your location to take a look at your brakes and make sure they are properly installed to ensure this does not continue to happen as this is could be dangerous.

Hard brake pedal and rear brakes locking up.
ANSWER : Hi. I will help you with this issue you are having with your 2001 Durango. Unless you bled the master cylinder, it is possible there is still air in the system. If you car is equipped with ABS, air could have also gotten trapped in the ABS modulator. If ABS equipped, a bi-directional scan tool would be essential to manually activate the ABS system to clear air from that segment of the lines while you are bleeding the system. It is also possible that in all of this work somehow the proportioning valve has been affected causing the desired pressure differential, front versus back, to get out of spec. Using a 2,500 PSI gauge, you can check the pressures at each wheel and that will definitely give you a clue as to which brake circuit is the issue (or both), whether the proportioning valve is working properly and whether the line pressures at each wheel are within spec. Should you need a second opinion, by all means feel free to contact YourMechanic for assistance and we will diagnose and repair the issue for you.

Changed brake master cylinder, bled 10 times, and the pedal is soft The rear brakes are not locked but close. Truck now running rough.
ANSWER : You will have to bleed the brakes from the farthest location all the way to the master cylinder. There is still air in the lines causing the issue. Check the vibrations on the vehicle to see if the engine mounts are damaged or if the brakes are not releasing causing the engine to run harder than normal to overcome the braking force. If you need further assistance with your vehicle’s brake system, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.
