Engine and Transmission mounts have collapsed. Do they have to be replaced immediately? How much for both? TBC….

The ABC light is constantly on in my 2003 SL500. One day while driving I heard a distinct release of pressure as if air were being let out of a tire. The car began to bounce terribly and now it is so low that it is undriveable and the ABC feature does not work on it. I was told there was a leak the size of a nail head in the rear line and the line would need to be replaced before they could tell if the pump was bad.
How much?
Also told the engine and transmission mounts had collapsed and needed to be replaced. How much?
Also rear brake pads to be replaced? How much?

My car has 76000 mi

Experienced mechanics share their insights in answering this question :
If the engine mounts are faulty, the drive axles will operate at the wrong angle eventually causing premature wear-out of the axles so it is important to get the mounts replaced. If you would please refer to YourMechanic’s motor mount service page you can obtain the requested price quote. Brake pads generally cannot be replaced without either resurfacing the brake rotors or replacing the rotors if they are not restorable. If you do not follow this procedure the brake pads will wear irregularly, wear out early and you may get brake pedal pulsation and vibration from rotor thickness variation. To request brake service and cost info, please use YourMechanic’s brake pad/rotor service page. With regard to your air suspension, repairing a leak is typically straightforward but, as noted, the status of the whole system, whether you need a new dryer, and so forth will have to also be determined. If you request an air suspension diagnostic the mechanic can just deal with what you have in one trip and estimate for you, on site, all the repairs that are necessary. Of course, if the simple leak repair resolves everything, there will not be a need for further estimating. If you schedule the aforeforementioned mentioned services, the responding certified mechanic will get this taken care of for you. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.

Mercedes-Benz Engine (Motor) Mount Repair & Mercedes-Benz Transmission mount replacement. An engine mount is the part that holds the engine and transmission into the subframe of the car. It`s purpose is to reduce road shocks and engine vibrations so passengers do not feel vibrations from the engine.
Engine movement or misalignment may occur as a result of engine mount failure. Broken or worn engine mounts may cause the engine to slide around in all directions in the engine bay, something that is particularly noticeable when accelerating or driving at high speeds.
No matter the quality of engine mounts, they begin to wear down after usage and eventually require replacement. Not replacing an engine mount that is past its prime can inflict damage to the engine, cause discomfort for operators and potentially be a safety risk if the engine isn`t secured.
Motor mounts can also be called engine mounts. Each motor mount is connected in two places: to the car body and to the engine itself. Motor mounts are typically made of rubber or similar materials to prevent metal-to-metal contact between the car body and the engine itself.
BMW engine mounts help isolate motor movement for silent and vibration-free operation. Stock OEM BMW engine mounts eventually wear out, allowing too much engine movement under load, creating problems including higher chance of a costly mis-shift.
The engine and the transmission are held together by 4 mounts. Some may refer to them as engine mounts, others as transmission mounts, depending on the mechanic. Regardless of the terminology, these parts play a vital role in keeping your engine safe.
Rubber is prone to dry rot from all the back and forth temperature changes in the engine. Rough driving on uneven terrains put a lot of stress on the mounts as well. Over time these factors can cause the motor mounts to break, leading to catastrophe.
One of the most common signs of a failing motor mount is what we call “impact noises” that you will hear coming from the engine bay. You may hear significant clunking, banging or rattling, and that means the engine could be loose at the point of one or more of the motor mounts.
While most engines utilize a total of 2-3 motor mounts, the majority of today`s transmissions are supported by only a single transmission mount. However, the exact number of engine and transmission mounts used in a specific application varies from one particular make and model of vehicle to the next.
Yes,in a manual car they can cause the transmission to slip out of gear, the same goes with the rear transmission mount !
As your motor mounts wear out, they can cause vibrations and engine shaking that can cause your entire vehicle to experience a decrease in ride quality.
There are two major types of mounts for astronomical telescopes: Altazimuth and Equatorial. Altazimuth (sometimes called alt-az) is the simplest type of mount with two motions, altitude (vertical) and azimuth (horizontal): thus the name Altazimuth.
Corteco has increased its range of hydraulic and switchable engine mounts for different high performance engines for Land Rover, Volvo, VAG and BMW.
No, they aren`t. Typically there are four main mounts that support the motor and the transmission.
Generally, motor mounts last a very long time, sometimes the lifetime of the vehicle. However, depending on operating conditions, they can wear out as the miles add up. To avoid excessive damage or serious safety problems, it`s a good idea to have the motor mounts inspected to make sure they don`t need to be replaced.
Basically, the motor mounts are rubber isolators that are mounted between the engine and the frame of a vehicle. It helps to hold the engine at the right place. At the same time, it absorbs the vibration that the engine in motion causes and stops it from being transferred to the other parts of the vehicle.
Typically, one motor mount fails before the others. As an engine revs, it wants to rotate in the same direction as the crankshaft. That tends to stretch one motor mount and compress the others. Usually, the mount that stretches is the one that fails first, Mazor said.
You can usually find engine mounts located around the bottom sides of your vehicle`s engine. Some vehicles only have two engine mounts — one on each side — though others have three or four. Regardless, you can usually find them by inspecting the bottom sides of your car`s engines.
The average cost for an Engine Mount Replacement is between $465 and $519. Labor costs are estimated between $203 and $256 while parts are priced between $262 and $263.
There are several reasons why your engine mount could leak oil. Since this piece works hand-in-hand with your engine, it`s exposed to the same oil that keeps your engine running. Unfortunately, if there`s a hole within your mount, this causes the oil from the engine to leak- thus causing a massacre of problems.
Broken engine mounts are no longer capable of absorbing the vibration from the engine; typically meaning the rubber guards are ineffective. The vibration is very noticeable inside the car, especially from the passenger`s seat. However, the steering wheel and dash are also likely to shake.
Over time and use, hydraulic engine mounts can start to fail and “pancake.” This can directly affect the height and position of the engine, which not only leads to a deteriorating ride, but also has the potential to damage other components such as the cooling fan and shroud.
Not all engine mounts have the same construction, because there are several types of engine mounts that have a more unique construction.
Hydraulic engine mounts are made of rubber, and they feature a hollow centre filled with hydraulic fluid, usually a glycol/water mixture.

How do you replace the rear & side engine mounts without lifting out the engine? & how do you lift the engine out?
ANSWER : Hi…thank you for your questions. If required in the application, a portable engine support bar is used to support an engine during mount replacement. The support bar has lifting capability as well so that the mount can be unloaded and removed. If a particular repair application requires a "crane" (complete engine removal for instance), such are portable these days in any event. With regard to the exhaust system repair, mechanics use ramps to gain access. Six ton portable jack stands will safely support a car two feet into the air which provides more than enough access to repair or replace any exhaust system component. If you desire replacement of the mounts, please refer to YourMechanic’s motor mount replacement service page. For exhaust leaks, please use the exhaust system inspection/repair page page. How many transmission mounts are there in an sl55 amg and are they the same mounts as the front engine mounts?
ANSWER : Sometimes the way they are labeled is confusing. In a car like yours, where the engine is mounted front to rear, there are three mounts. The two in the front on either side usually look similar to each other, but not identical. The rear mount at the tail of the transmission will look entirely different and makes the third point of the plane. Many times the transmission mount will be referred to as a rear motor mount in parts literature. If you need too have your mounts inspected or replaced, you can contact Your Mechanic.they can send a technician to your home or office to replace your motor mounts right there on the spot.
